Currently 3 degrees, a beautiful sunny day in Grande Prairie.

I might even go on a walk tonight after helping coach my old junior high's basketball team.

Second semester in school tomorrow...can't wait. Social Studies 30-1, Drama 30, Biology 30 and Art 30.

I'm going for at least 90% in Social again this year.

Its interesting to note that some of the far northern regions of Canada are saying that this is a warmer winter. I'm heading north again next week and the temps are only in the low -30C. For the region I'm heading that is warmer.

Another day in paradise... not!!!

-5C today with light freezing drizzle. Meanwhile only 150 km to the south in Burlington it was 14C warmer (9C). Even Huntingdon , 65 km away, went up to 3C. This is becoming a daily occurrence and it's ridiculous. Quickly becoming the worst winter I have ever experienced not because of the brutal cold but because we're buried under a lot of snow while just a few kms away, you can actually see the green grass. We better get 30C+ weather in April to make up for this shit.:(

Willie says no to a winter that never was

http://www.thespec.com/news/article/664707--willie-says-no-to-a-winter-that-never-was

WIARTON - Groundhog celebrity Wiarton Willie has predicted the end to a winter that never was. The famed groundhog, who was dragged from his lair just after 8 a.m. this morning, failed to see his shadow.

According to the Groundhog Day tradition, this means an early spring and an end to our milder-than-usual winter.

Willie’s prediction falls in line with Nova Scotia’s own Shubenacadie Sam, who couldn’t find his own shadow earlier this morning.

Shadow or not, most Canadians don’t need a groundhog to predict an end to a never-was winter.

“The one thing uniting all Canadians right now is the question of ‘where’s winter?’ We’re almost sending a search party looking for it,” Environment Canada senior climatologist David Phillips said in a telephone interview with the Canadian Press.

I don't know how correct it is but it says Moncton is -19 right now and Charlottetown is -7. That's a 12 degree difference over 150 kilometres!

:previous:Yeah, Montreal has been given the shaft this winter relative to all the areas south, west and even east of them.

On a different page, Abbotsford tonight has been given what is, IMO the first true spring forecast in Canada!

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7024/6810998583_b21222f8ee_z.jpg

All the highs are 10 and above with plentiful sunshine, and the lowest overnight temp is one night at 0.

Conditions will be similar in Vancouver near the water, just a couple degrees cooler. Having an inland warming effect in the Fraser Valley is also the first rue sign of spring during a sunny stretch.

There is actually not that much snow on the ground in Montreal, at least compared to an average winter. Save for the snow banks, pretty much everything would melt within a week were it a little warmer. It is indeed much colder here than everywhere else around though.

It is pretty crazy. 0 in Toronto and -13 in Ottawa.

I don't know how correct it is but it says Moncton is -19 right now and Charlottetown is -7. That's a 12 degree difference over 150 kilometres!

It was -18.5 degrees in Moncton this morning when I went into work but it was sunny and there was no wind so it didn't feel too bad.

As far as temperature differences over a short distance, that's not too unusual in the Maritimes. I remember one summer before we got central air conditioning in our house, the air temperature in Moncton one day was about 33 degrees with nearly 100% humidity. It was stifling!! We decided to pile the kids in the car and head down to Fundy National Park for a cool sea breeze. When we arrived (1 hour and 100 km later), the park was foggy and the air temperature was 8 degrees!!! We were freezing because everyone had shorts and T-shirts on. We had to leave........

Another time, about ten years later in late April, there was a northeasterly breeze off the Northumberland Strait blowing over Moncton. Meanwhile, a warm front had moved over southwestern NB. The mid afternoon temperature in Moncton was about 1 degree, but in Saint Stephen (250 km away), it was 21 degrees!! :sly:

Despite the cold this morning, this has been as much of a non winter in Moncton as everywhere else in the country. We had our first decent snowfall of the winter only two days ago (30 cm). The temperatures have only been "normal" for about the last week. :)

I'm no climate expert but there definitely seems to be a warming trend in the upper latitudes for NA vs a cooling trend in Europe (for a few winters now). Paris' winter has been pretty similar to Montreal's this year...

Match-up examples of today:

Montreal 1c vs London 1c
Toronto 4c vs Madrid 4c
Vancouver 8c vs Barcelona 8c
Quebec city -4c vs Paris -2c
Calgary -4c vs Milan -2c
Whitehorse -8c vs Prague -8c

The list goes on. Pretty bonkers when you think about it.
