Interesting Facts/Records (in own words): Athlone transmitter was the first high-power broadcasting station built
in Ireland. It was inaugaurated in 1933 and uses an antenna spun between two 100 metres tall guyed masts insulated against ground.
The name "Athlone" for this station can be found on many old radio sets in Europe.
In 1975 new Tullamore transmitter was inaugaurated and since 1979 the facility is used by Radio Eireann.
The old equipment from 1933 is still at the site
