AUSTIN — As Austin continues to grow, the need for improved transit has begun to move away from automobiles in favor of mass transit rail systems.
Reaching this vision will be the result of combined efforts by several rail agencies in Texas, each developing a rail system that, in time, will be connected.
“In the end, good public transportation is what makes cities livable,” said Joseph Black, rail operations manager for the Lone Star Rail District. “When you reach a certain density, you need good transit because at some point the congestion will kill your capability to grow the city in a rational way.”
