The Gaylord Apartments next to the famous Brown Derby restaurant on Wilshire Blvd. All the actors/actresses from the golden era frequented the BD.

Now the Brown Derby is just a memory.

Across from the Gaylord apts. and the Brown Derby stood the once
internationally famous Ambassador Hotel and the Cocoanut Grove
nightclub. 6 Academy Award shows were held here. This one complex drew the international jetset, the who's who of Hollywood's golden era, presidents and world leaders. Spencer Tracey, Gary Cooper, Carol Lombard, Lana Turner, Douglas Fairbanks, Nat King Cole, Lauren Bacall, Clark Gable and the list goes on.

I forgot to mention Senator Robert F. Kennedy was assasinated at the
Ambassador in 1968. After that the Ambassador went downhill. Directly
in front of the site there is a RFkennedy memorial and the block of Wilshire
in front was renamed.

I think as you've become more familiar with your new home, each new photo thread improves upon previous threads! :tup: I especially liked seeing the shots from neighborhoods with a fair amount of greenery! I LOVE driving down to Palos Verdes. It's absolutely beautiful down there and I find it mesmerizing watching the waves lap up against the cliffs. On a clear day, if you take Hawthorne Blvd south, as soon as you crest over the top of the hill you get the most amazing panoramic view of Catalina Island and the Pacific. Also, Lloyd Wright's Wayfarer's Chapel is a fun diversion on PV. Thanks for the great photos!
