I love this heading:
Angry crowd pans Nepean development
Do these angry Nepeaners carry pitchforks and torches and resemble a lynch mob!?

hilarious!!! this development has easy access to both the 416 AND 417. PLEASE find me a MOREsuitable place for density anywhere in the city!!! this is ridiculous. if we can't put density here, we can't put it anywhere. let's put a hold on all building in the city until we add three or more freeways.:yuck:

What some fail to understand is if this project does not happen it likely will mean more urban sprawl meaning far more traffic on the queensway.

One women was quoted as saying she didn't want the noise or traffic generated by a condo building, but she would accept anything else instead, including - get this - a Wal Mart!
Yeah, lots of night time transport truck deliveries and flood lights at condo buildings these days. What wasn't quoted was the obligatory 'what about the children?' rant (Baseline Road is four lanes already) and the 'what about my property values?'
They already cover the usual 'we support intensification and hate urban sprawl, but can't accept this - it doesn't fit the community.'
I think it's a heavy equipment storage yard now. If only it were a Wal Mart so I could get some sleep and have my house start appreciating in value!

What how does that make any sense that person is aginst condos because of noise and traffic yet she would support a wal-mart that i would say could see more traffic and noise.

I believe S-Man is being sarcastic. You'll also note they are asking for nothing taller than 6 storeys - despite a 10+ storey condo across the street.

Yes! Yes they do! I saw them on Baseline Road this morning! Terrifying! :)

No, no! More sprawl means cute, quite cul-de-sacs, where all the big mean "traffic" is helpfully segregated onto "collectors", with beautifully landscaped sound (and visual) barriers protecting the houses which back onto them from the nasty, icky, "traffic". More beautiful, low-density urban sprawl, of the type that Ottawans love, and can't conceive of anything more beautiful, means, in their imaginations, less "traffic".
Only "tall" buildings of three or more storeys (if you can imagine that, it's like downtown North Haverbrook!) in "dense" configurations where they are closer than 250 feet together, cause "traffic", don't you know?

What about the pollution? For the sake of Flying Spaghetti Monster, won't they do something about the POLLUTION!?!?!?

Really though! Do we want Ottawa to end up looking like Brockway?

I think it emulates the character of Ogdensville more.
When I read articles describing reactions and arguments against any and all development like that, then read articles like the five-parter running in the Citizen about what's wrong with Ottawa, I shake my head.

I don't shake my head, but that's because it hurts too much from banging it against this wall.
