My friend Shelly and I decided to take a walk along the new Riverwalk - which is a part of the East Village (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downtown_East_Village,_Calgary) redevelopment plans. It's a huge former industrial area in Calgary that is undergoing urban renewal. River walk isn't complete yet - but it's looking amazing.

The Bow river pathway system is part of River walk which takes you to the oldest community in Calgary - Inglewood, which is just east of downtown along 9 Avenue SE. It's an amazing area. Calgary continues to grow - but this area retains it's charm, despite being so close to downtown. It will be great to see East Village done in 15 years. Enjoy!

9th ave looks great. i cant overstate how much i love what they are doing along the river near downtown Calgary. it looks like a bright future for anyone who loves the bow. it will be so much more excess able now that the river walkways are being brought into the 21st century. as a kid, it was a big thing for me and my friends to enjoy a day along the bow. going to the zoo was always a great way to spend the day but getting there along the bow river was more than half the fun. it was an adventure. the kids of today have it made with the trails that are there now. wish i was still living in calgary. got to take my little boys for one of them river and zoo adventures real soon. thanks for sharing your photo's.

yes they are very close. there is another old steel bridge in Inglewood about a block or so from the one pictured, it takes you to the Calgary zoo which is on an island. the whole area is just beautiful these days.

Good job of showing us the good job Calgary is doing on the Riverwalk. Also like the nice older commercial streets well maintained.
