Way to rep the vill KP. Have you noticed a lot of those condos fill in with renters? How is the street activity compared to 2 years ago? I am down there from time to time but I wanted to get the opinion of a resident.

Despite being well known, SD is fairly underrated on a national level. I always love seeing more of it... thanks for this great set.

I agree with you. I've been there and it's just paradise! The pictures above are gorgeous. Anyway, what I realized, San Diego is much more nicer when you're there physically than pictures of it. The pictures don't do justice!!

I'd say it feels much more active during the summer - you've got all the AZ'ers that flood the city and Padre games. East Village feels more active with Thomas Jefferson School of Law; they took over the master lease for Entrada and rent the units to their students. Park and Market trolley stop is seeing some much needed attention from MTS in terms of security. The next big boom for the 'hood is the East Village Green and the IDEA district - I really hope we can see that happen soon.

Can you elaborate on the IDEA District? I know of the Village Green, but the second is a bit of a mystery to me.

It's a cool concept of bringing high paying clean-tech jobs to downtown. Really really cool idea - they unveiled more at the ULI conference on Friday, but I couldn't make it due to class. More to come.

Yes it is underrated probably due to it being so close to LA and overshadowed by that massive metro area. The only other place in the US you can compare it to in that regard is Milwaukee. I realize that Philly is very close to the much larger NYC but it is still a metro area of 6 million and is an old historical and more urban metro.
And to be honest it just isn't very urban. It was such a small city pre WWII that its area of old cool neighborhoods is very small. The street car suburbs are not very dense and those that are are very small in land area and aren't very walkable and truly urban. San Diego is more like a resort city with great older residential areas but you really do need a car to from one cool two block strip to the next one 1/2 a mile away.
It really is a great place if you like natural things like walking in the canyons, hills, lagoons, bays, beaches etc. but the built environment is simply not very impressive and there is an "anti density" attitude that prevails most of the time.

I was in the East Village yesterday around 5 p.m. and it was pretty dead, I guess the Padre game crowd had cleared out. Maybe I should check it out next time when the law school is open.

It looks awesome. And it makes sense.
