Sad news from Clarington
A pony was killed in a raging barn fire in Bowmanville on Sunday.
The barn, full of horses and hay, caught fire around 8 a.m. at Chance Stables equestrian centre, about 70 kilometres east of Toronto. It was continuing to burn late Sunday night.
“I’ve had my moments (this morning),” said stables owner Bill Metcalf. “It’s … it’s a hard thing to deal with.”
Workers arriving Sunday morning at discovered the fire had just started. They quickly phoned the fire department, Metcalf said.
The fire was contained to just one of four barns on the farm. It was a new barn that housed 10 horses. The nine horses other than the pony escaped

The 300 new assisted housing units planned for Halton isn’t enough to address the region’s ballooning wait list, according to a housing advocate.
Garth Brown of Affordable Housing Halton addressed the Region’s health and social services committee last week as the group discussed the 2012 budget.
Brown, the only individual to present at the meeting, said with $30 million the Region plans to use in a three-year, 300-unit assisted housing plan, about 1,500 units could be created.
“The definition of a home usually had to be 1,500 square feet or beyond. Of the 2,140 people on the HATCH (Halton Access to Community Housing) wait list, 75 per cent are looking for single bedroom units, and those individuals, when we talk to them, they’re very clear they don’t want 1,500 square feet. They’ll take half of that. They’ll take less than half of that.”

Uh oh....
PICKERING -- Police are investigating the discovery of a dungeon in the basement of an abandoned house in rural Pickering.
"It's bizarre," Durham homicide Detective Chuck Nash said of what police are describing as a confinement room, discovered late last month in a house in the vicinity of Concession 7 and the York-Durham Line. "It is a spooky scene."

Was the guy just using it as a fun S & M room, or was he killing people?

Didn't know where to ask this, but there is a highrise building (~20 stories) built near the 410 near Clark Blvd in Brampton. Its beige with narrow windows. Any information on this? Anyone know what I'm talking about?

The renders were just submitted earlier this month, so I presume there's still time for a redesign. Here's hoping.
