Kenstone is reviving the proposal for the Murray Hotel site at 1155 Hornby street. This was fell thru the cracks during the economic crisis. Henriquez and Partners are still the architects. I like the project and look forward to seeing it progress.

I like most of it but I really don't like how much architectural concrete is used on the North facade, given that it is never going to be blocked by a building due to the Murray hotel being right in front of it.

I know Hornby is one way going the other direction, but plenty of pedestrians will still be walking south on Hornby and will see that half treated facade.

something could be built on the north side of the hotel to help block it.

I personally dont like the townhomes fronting hornby, Im just sick of point towers

Why they are using a suburban residential podium for a site surrounded by office buildings and hotels is beyond comprehension

Looking at the rendering, that's the least of our worries. ;)

This is one ugly building. Agreed about the townhomes. And yellow? Yikes.

The design is indeed ugly, but I am happy to see 20fl being proposed on this currently dead piece of land. I think that height is pretty good for this location, but the design could be something similar to The Canadian (
1068 Hornby Street), which has nice podium design.

As wrenegade reported in his post #9014 on July 31st this project was approved by the UDP. Here are some pix I've been holding on to.

The townhouse brick walls next to the sidewalk are a bit odd from a visibility / safety perspective.

I personally like the first scheme mainly because its not another boring point tower with a townhouse base.

Is the murray hotel going to be restored or is it just the facade that they will retain?

The Murray Hotel will be restored. I believe it's use will remain the same, with the units/common areas upgraded.

I kind of agree, though I would prefer something closer to the second scheme. I'm not against the tower, more against the 2-storey townhouses. That section should match the height of the Murray Hotel, like how the north section abuts the Hotel.

personally dislike the townhome style on a downtown street, but if they're "flex" commercial/residential units, they could add an interesting element to the area. overall, these renderingss instill much more confidence in the development, thanks for posting.

What is that tower behind this project and along Burrard called? They already have crane up, but I am still looking to find out what is coming up there.

^ The luffing crane is for a 141 unit social housing residence targeting youth between the ages of 16 and 24. Here's a link for more info.

I like how the Murray is being retained in its entirety and not just another facade job :)
