f16: what program are you using to draw? Have to tried saving it to PNG format? (I think that allows tonnes of colours as well as transparency... I don't use it myself)

very nice! i don't believe the gif format is a requirement anymore, is it?

Never save your drawings in paint!
For example, use IrfanView to save your drawings

Unless you use bmp.

GIF is the required format for submissions to the diagrams.

If you choose to submit an "original" (usually you only do so if the original is at a larger scale than 1:1) along with the diagram GIF, you can submit it in a number of formats.

Hmm...Maybe I'll have to make my Catholic High School diagram bigger.:D

How did you get the height of your school?

f16_freak
Jan 3, 2004, 6:40 AM
haa, dont need. i think its too tall. i've shrunk it a bit to 43 m. its only an estimate from a person standing below it.

is Catholic High taller?

Cliff
Jan 3, 2004, 7:55 AM
I don't know, I estimated 30m, which is too short, considering the buildings next to the tower diagram to already be 4 stories high.

How many floors is your school?

My school building used to be 4 stories, but now its 5, with my classroom on the fifth floor of the incomplete building.:D

well my school is BIG man, its built on a hill. so the tower block looks really grand. haha, the tower block has two levels of classes, 8 classes in all, for the top 8 classes of sec 4, which i am unfortunately not able to get into this year... i think one block is 5 stories tall.

my classroom is just beside the tower block, called toilet block cos it have some toilets where the tower block deosn't. anyway tower and toilet sounds the same when read fast..ha, thats crap:dunno:

The tower block(your diagram) is 2 stories tall??!!!
That means that each floor has 8m high celings!!!

Is that diagram correct?:D
Because 43m is a 14 floor HDB block

http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=27172&drawingID=20991 http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=6268&drawingID=10743 http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=7087&drawingID=7085
Your school, my house, my school

Anyway, how many classes does your level have?
My school has 11 sec 4 classes.

Actually, you are lucky being in the toilet block, the building that my class is in does not have a toilet, only because its not built yet!

f16_freak
Jan 3, 2004, 1:32 PM
two stories is excluding the tower itself, if u can see clearly.

u sure the HDB is of correct height? i think it sould be taller, one story has 3 pixels.

i think i'll shrink the tower block more, haha

Cliff
Jan 3, 2004, 2:05 PM
Thats my condo, which is taller than the nearby HDBs of the same number of floors.

Yes, I excluded the tower height, the building itself in your diagram is 17m excluding the roof height.

Compare your 2 storey school with my 4 storey school.:D
But of course my school diagram is WAY too small, with 2m per floor.

And yes the average residential block has 3m per floor.

is it wide?

Buck
Feb 21, 2004, 4:18 PM
Very wide, I'd think.

LMich
Feb 21, 2004, 4:44 PM
It looks just a little bit wide to me. The one currently in the diagram is a bit too narrow.

BTW, I REALLY like that version. It looks like it would on a nice, cloudy day...mysterious...

Great work!

Gulcrapek
Feb 21, 2004, 5:46 PM
It's great except it's a little too wide and the glass usually looks a bit bluer, even on cloudy days. I really like the stuff in the ground floor windows.

LMich
Feb 21, 2004, 10:53 PM
Yeah, shrink the sides down just a bit and make it slightly bluer and it will be perfect!

I want to but under which building should I submit it?

Hey I've thought of it before too. buildings which are hard to define as separate ones can be put in this category, such as petronas twins, CNN center, sorrento etc.

LeeWilson
Mar 1, 2004, 10:35 PM
^ I've had the same thought sometimes. Another example is BCE Place in Toronto. I had to just guess at which pieces belonged to which building to draw them seperately.

I'm back!!!

with this!
http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=23&drawingID=23907

most of the time was spent on the spire and the tower as this was drawn at a 1:4 scale, so perhaps the top part is probably one of the most accurate around.. and this drawing was drawn over nearly a month, so I probably spent about 20 hours total on it:D enjoy!

LMich
Apr 15, 2004, 2:49 PM
This should definitely replace the current metallic-looking ESB that's in the primary right now. No offense, but I never got how anyone could consider that one accurate in the least bit besides getting the height and proportions right.

But anyway, excellent drawing!

Tony
Apr 15, 2004, 4:00 PM
f16, you are TRULY one of the best, if not the absolute best newcomer illustrator!

Amazing contributions! :D

f16_freak
Apr 16, 2004, 10:58 AM
oh thanks LMich and Tony! You're flattering me! i think that spe's drawing is a bit out of proportioned but i like his reflections. well everyone has their own style and if my drawing can take the primary spot i'll be really happy!

Jai-C
Apr 17, 2004, 2:30 PM
The drawing is nice - but way to dark and blurry.

Why don't you meet the callenge and draw in a 1:1 scale...

Taylordaman
Apr 17, 2004, 7:50 PM
Cool drawing.
When you draw at a scale remember to count how many pixels you're drawing at. I realized at 2:1 that everything should be even or uneven and it won't come out blurry. If you draw one window 5 pixels and the space between that window and the next 2 pixels it will resize very blurry.

Cliff
Apr 18, 2004, 3:37 PM
I feel that if a resized one had enough details, the blur is compensated.;)

This was drawn at 6:1 scale, and it looks okay
http://www.skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=5&drawingID=23948

LMich
Apr 18, 2004, 3:56 PM
Don't you think you went a little too heavy on the cloud and reflections of this one?

Cliff
Apr 18, 2004, 4:05 PM
Everygody says that, and I regret it. I don't mind if it is replaced though, really.:D

Next time I will not add clouds.

Jai-C
Apr 18, 2004, 4:10 PM
Everygody says that, and I regret it. I don't mind if it is replaced though, really.

I like your clouds Cliff, BUT there are two major failures:
1. Clouds only reflect on glass and not on the window frames
2. In a dense skyline (like Chigaco is) there won't be any clouds visible on low levels as other buildings block the sight.

f16_freak
Apr 19, 2004, 10:13 AM
alright alright, don't pollute my thread. i feel that my drawing is not that blur, this is an updated one..
http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=23&drawingID=23962
Why don't you meet the callenge and draw in a 1:1 scale...
because all my previous drawings were done in 1:1 scale so i'd like to do a big one on this grand building.

only the building's lower part is a bit dark as the lighting is from the front and the buildings in front cast shadows on it.

LMich
Apr 19, 2004, 12:31 PM
I really like the old one much better.

Islander
Apr 20, 2004, 3:33 PM
Thank you so much for making that ESB drawing! It's by far the best ESB drawing yet, and I couldn't stand the old primary, it looked like an old haunted abandoned version of the ESB (no offense to whoever drew it). My only complaint is that the mast is a little too far to the left.
