Two residential towers approved downtown

Two new residential projects are planned for downtown and have been approved for the Downtown Living Initiative, which now has nearly reached its cap.
The program offers developers up to $15,000 for each unit built in a multifamily complex of at least 10 units. The Houston Downtown Management District approved the two new projects at a board meeting Feb. 12.

Additionally, Illinois-based Marquette Cos. is developing the other newly approved project, according to the district's documents. The 304-unit, 24-story apartment tower is planned for Block 114, bounded by Commerce, Jackson, Franklin and Chenevert streets, just a block northeast of Minute Maid Park.

Very nice. I didn't think we would ever being getting this type of height northeast of Minute Maid Park.

Excavator on a portion of the site, it's unknown whether the activity is related to this project.

Any ideas on what's up?, Is this prep for groundbreaking?

I believe so. The activity suggest they still anticipate to break ground in December, possibly sooner.

As noted by the absence of updates, this one did not break ground. New pavement for the surface lot sparked a false alarm. The newest map has a 1Q 2017 start date for the project (https://www.downtownhouston.org/site_media/uploads/attachments/2016-06-22/061516_Development_Map__Renders_11X17.pdf).
