What are some good web sites that actually show good details and pictures of real estate? (particulary in the bigger cities--Chicago, NYC, Philly, Boston, etc)

You can't go wrong with the Times (http://www.nytimes.com/pages/realestate/index.html)...

Realtor.com pulls the info from every city's MLS system, even if the realtor didnt post anything on realtor.com. Its the place to go.

CB Richard Ellis is probably a decent bet for some stuff, but I've never been to their site.

Isn't Ellis just a commercial borker?

Yes, but he didn't specify that he wanted residential. And they do surveys/listings of things like average lease price per square foot and those types of things.

There are two major sites for nation-wide commercial real estate - www.loopnet.com and www.costar.com. Loopnet is free and Costar is a subscription-based service.

Chicago just launched an economic development web site, www.chicagoprospector.com. We just launched a similar site in Indy two months ago: imaps.indygov.org/ed

The application developer, GIS Planning, has their portfolio on their web site, www.gisplanning.com

Alright, I need people to think real hard on this one. Does anyone remember, I dont know it was a long time ago, there was this one real estate sight posted on here that featured one or two small pictures of most every neighborhood in New York City especially the ones in Queens and Brooklyn with little blurbs on the housing stock and type of neighborhood it was. It was a really cool website and I dont remember what it was called and I want to find it again. Thats about all the info I can give you.
