So would you rather open up your curtains one morning and look out over Central Park and the surrounding skyline or Lincoln Park/Lake Michigan and surrounding skyline? I was checking out places on line for fun and both are stunning views. I think for me it depends on the season.

Could you post some photos of the Lincoln Park and the houses there?

How about a studio in the John Hancock Center where you can see just about everything... for $850 a month.

If it was being given to me: Central Park

If I had to pay for it myself: Lincoln Park.

Something at North & Astor or North & Dearborn, in front of the Hancock Center in this pic:

^Thats insane. I would pick that up in a hearbeat.

But if money were no bject, I'd go for a park ave. penthouse right on 59th street, where the city meets the park. And it would have to be done right---panoramic views of midtown, central park and, if possible, downtown. Real pimped out like, to reflect my lifestyle.

Honestly, I'd take either one.

City meets the park @ 59th & 5th. 5th Ave is prime! I'd take an apt there any day over Chi. Though the monthly upkeep would be probably 10 times what I pay in rent now.

Cut and paste the below link to get an idea of the views from a typical high rise in the Gold Coast. From here you get mostly lake/beach views (plus a few of Navy Pier).

I would choose Lincoln Park - right next to the Lake, more open.

You should have put the question as:

"I love Chicago and the Lake. I would love to live here, even more than overlooking Central Park. Does anyone agree with me?"

Yeah, but then it wouldn't be as interesting...only Chicago cheerleaders would post and the NY forumers would skip the thread

Those pics are the shizzle, my nizzle. The Pierre, you swanky devil.

ChiNY, I hear what you're saying about the title, but it might also start yet another classic NY v. CHI fight... we all love those.

Does anybody have or know where to find good photos of the Lake Michigan/Lincoln Park shoreline? It would be nice to have similar pictures like the NY ones. Those Central Park shots are great.

ChiNY
Dec 3, 2003, 7:15 PM
True about the NY v Chi fight. I guess I should say before that even starts, I'm trying to keep this to VIEWS only. Yes the city bias will be there too but which view do you think is better/prettier?

ChiNY
Dec 3, 2003, 7:21 PM
This hardly does the view justice but if you look really close you can get a peak through the window looking north from a room at the Four Seasons on Michigan Ave. You can sort of see the highrises in the Gold Coast and on Lincoln Park West, the lake, beach and drive.

Having gone into and hung out in Chicago more times than I can imagine, I would have to choose NYC in this case... for a year! My god those pictures fflint posted made my jaw drop. One of these years I will get out of the burbs.

Yes, I was the one on this forum who found out about that amazing deal and made a thread about it awhile back. I actually had a realtor show me the place and took pictures which I will show in a thread when I have time. I might be living in an apartment in the JHC in the near future ;) . I would pick living in downtown Chicago over Manhattan anyday because of the cost of living.

Both are great, but if I was in a position of getting a penthouse, it would be in NYC with a view of Central Park.

I gotta go with Chicago on this one... I've always had an affinity for that city.

Dec 8, 2003, 5:14 AM
if u had a choice? most of us will never have this choice in our lives. id settle for either! im not too picky. I like NY's density (ya chi is dense too but c'mon... this is NY!) and how there is a curtain wall of scrapers along the park... but Chicago also has some natural (non man-made) beaty especially in that first pic. For me its a coin toss, it breaks down to which city you like more
