Tech salaries should rise in '04, says survey
Workers in the Washington tech industry should receive about a 3.3 percent pay raise in 2004, according to a recent survey.
That's up from the 2.2 percent raise the average tech worker in the state received in 2003, according to the WSA technology association's annual technology industry salary survey, conducted in conjunction with Milliman USA.
Fifty companies were surveyed about what they paid workers in 110 tech-specific jobs. The survey indicated that some companies are using hiring and salary freezes and making employees pay more for medical coverage, instead of laying off workers.
The survey also indicated that 14 percent of those responding have outsourced their technology positions.
"With the economy improving, we're encouraged by the employee compensation trends we see reflected in the survey," Kathy Wilcox, president and CEO of the WSA, said in a statement.
