It will be interesting to see how the value of Vikings and Twins jump once they get their new stadiums built:) . The Metrodump only seats around 65,000 for football. Isn't the average about 70,000?

There are few cities missing from this list.....San Antonio and Columbus and maybe more.

Raleigh and Memphis

I originally excluded them because they're way down on the list but now I've added them in. I also didn't realize that the Carolina Hurricanes were in the Raleigh area, not Charlotte. :P

Green Bay should be on the list. Since NFL teams are worth the most, this list totally skews towards NFL cities (SF over LA for example).

Portland is missing too. The Jail Blazers, despite their problems are one of the most valuble NBA teams.

Is the Toronto figure correct? $646 million?

Less than Montreal?

You misread it ---- I meant 2 teams in Montreal, totalling $283 million.

hmm, Sacramento is mysteriously missing as well :sly

Looks like it should fall between Portland and San Antonio. The Kings after all did just pay for the new Palms casino in Vegas. 8)

Looks like I'm losing brownie points as far as stats are concerned. :apple:

Yeah, this is kind of worthless because different leagues have different priorities/histories as to the locations of teams, etc. Of course every league would want to have teams in NYC or Chicago. Fewer would have wanted them in San Antonio or Orlando.

Also, "Michael Brown" has not been running the Bengals since 1966. Paul Brown started ownership of the Bengals in 1968. Mike Brown didn't assume ownership until around the time of Paul's death in the early 90s.

The last purchase price isn't always the current value of a team. Also teams that sell more tickets and more memoribellia. Some teams were last purchased decades ago.

Hmmm.....it's funny how Cleveland, Baltimore, and Houston are in the top third in NFL franchise value....even though their teams are relatively new.

I'm assuming the new stadiums are the biggest factor since 14 of the top 15 teams have new stadiums. (Built in the last 8 years)

New stadiums will raise the value of a team drastically. That would most likely be a reason. They increase the value of these teams and then when they sell them, they get more money out of them. Its kinda like buying an old house and re-doing it and then turning around and selling it after a while. You get better market value for the house than what you paid for it in the first place.

Lucky--the high price of those new teams is probably what's behind that high valuation?
