What he said. Good job, staff.

Hard to believe that after all these years it's finally up there on the skyline. Not casting doubts about the project, but this is one of the earliest proposed "wtb's" that I remember in all of my highrise research days. I remember it from some news updates on worldstallest.com by M. Gerometta, some time in 1999 or somewhere around then. There was even a diagram of other WTB contenders. Many of thos eproposals have bit the dust, many are missing in action and countless others have popped up. That was before Taipei 101 even broke ground, and I'm not even mentioning things like Burj Dubai. However, SWFC was slowly, uncertainly yet already moving along down its slow road to the top.

Jin Mao is a masterpiece. SWFC is a skyscraper.
+1
This building is what I call a true skyscraper. The building doesn't taper on two corners -- vertical wall from ground to roof. This is one of the reasons why I loved the WTC buildings so much. No tapers make for a much more dramatic appearance.

The Burj Dubai tapers about 15 times before it reaches its pinnacle. Kinda cheap if you ask me.
Even though the SWFC will be significantly shorter when completed, it will be more impressive when standing at its base looking up than the completed Burj Dubai because of its uncompromising design.

If you look at some of the close photos you'll notice that the concrete edge sticks out further than the steel so I don't think they'll stop that part. On an earlier post I thought I could see rebar sticking out of the existing section as though they're going to continue. Also, the core is still at the height of the top of the building because you can still see the shape of it on the latest photos so I'm really not sure what's happening with that.

This last group of photos were great. There is one angle of the building I haven't seen though and that is the angle that shows both of the tapering sides at the same time. The building should be getting alot thinner from that vantage point as the two sloping surfaces get close together. If anyone has a shot from that angle I'd love to see it. Anyway, the photos that have been posted are excellent and this is one of my favorite projects. Thanks.
