I like the Development Tower, it is quite Pelli which is probably why i like it. However i dont like the off-shoot in the back of it. i'd have to see it at a different angle to re-judge it.
I actually like the Ping An Insurance Building...I enjoy the bulk/mass especially in the overhead model and the street-side render. It's very fortressy :)
They could squeeze just about any type of building in Shanhai - very few of them compliment each other anyways. But then again that may be way they do fit together. Shanghai is like a Panopticon of different building sets tossed together.
was it true that parts of the city wer "sinking" due to the massive influx of construction/skyscrapers? i heard something about that a while ago...

Fortune World
Construction of a new 200 m tower has been announced. It will be next to the X3-2 building. Architects will be Frederic Schwartz Architects and RAMSA.
I have no rendering yet.
Enriching the skyline
Shanghai Star. 2004-09-09
The spectacular skyline on the eastern bank of the Huangpu River is to have another addition within the next five years - a 200-metre skyscraper in Lujiazui.
"Our aim with this new project is to build a world-class office building," Wang Yagu, executive director of Shanghai Fortune World Development Co Ltd, said.
"The new building will be named Fortune World and will surpass all existing buildings in the city in terms of modern service functions."
Although the competition among the office buildings in the city has long been keen, especially in Lujiazui, known as the CBD of Shanghai, Wang seemed confident of the success of the project.
"Most of the office buildings in the area were designed five years ago, and many can hardly meet the standards set for the world's top office buildings," Wang said.
"This provides great market space for Fortune World, which has set itself the target of becoming the No.1 office building in Shanghai."
According to the blueprint, the building is scheduled for completion in 2009, when the country's financial sector will be fully open to the world.
"It is high time for us to put forward this first-class office building," Wang said.

^ it's the right plot and right heigth for the Fortune World but I'm not sure the model that was used for this rendering was a model for the Fortune World. This model photo was posted weeks ago in the cameraunion forum, the streets around the building do not match with the actual plot and block in Lujiazui. To be sure, we need a chinese forumer that rode the text of the post. :help:

New SHKP proposal for Lujiazui (Shanghai International Financial Center).
Source : http://www.building.com.hk/
The original plan by Hong Kong-based Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) to build a 320 meters tall twin-tower project in Pudong, Shanghai has been changed. The new proposal is to build three tower blocks with building heights of 260 meters, 250 meters and 85 meters respectively.
SHKP spokesman said the developer has already discussed the new proposal with related departments and the project will still include grade A office, hotel, serviced apartments and shopping center. The project will be developed by three phases. The first phase, including one tower block and shopping center is scheduled for completion in 2008. The entire development is expected to complete in 2011. There is no mention of any change to the original estimated investment cost of US$8 billion as well as the total GFA.

Excellent compilation, avcellvs.
I really want all of these to come to pass, but I seriously doubt well see over 50% of them get built before the end of this decade.
I love the Xujiahui project. That area needs a beacon tower. It's a bustling hub.
The three buildings attached at the top in Hongkou are interesting. This is the first I've seen of them. The North Bund area is ripe for a large scale development. It's neither here nor there right now.
Finally, the 258m and 260m unknown scrapers are totally new to me. I have a pretty good feeling these towers are not under-construction. I've seen no evidence anywhere of a large unknown development like this.

When I was in Shanghai last year, there was a quite big plot under construction just next to the Bund center. Could be a candidate for one of those (the Bund Zhongxin Tower? )
I am wondering too if the Yueyang Haide Square project has not been renamed Park Place, for the two designs are really close.

The rendering of the HongQiao DZ is exciting. I live very close to this area and I'm already taken back by the current quantity of buildings there. I'm not too sure what the tallest building in the rendering above is. I've read that the TIPS tower will look exactly like Central Plaza in Hong Kong.....
It's the tower in the middle. I also read that it will be a twin. Again, I haven't seen any evidence of these buildings UC in that area.

Do you know if construction has started on the very big plot that was cleared last year at the entrance of Nanjing Dong Lu pedestrian zone ? We can expect for a landmark building there.
By the way, is the Hongyi Tower (just across the street) rising ?

A, there is an office tower going up in the ped. zone of Nanjing Lu. It has a shopping mall at the base and looks to be about 33 stories. It's a nice design. I'll take a few photos of it soon.
Now get a load of this, avcellvs. I was in the Jing An district tonight when I noticed something weird with Donghai Plaza. Six panes of glass have been installed at around the 25th and 26th floor. Behind these windows were lights and what looked like furnishings. I've never seen anything like it. Further evidence that this tower may be back on track was welding at the very top of the crown. Sparks were flying.
Here is a photo I took. If you look carefully you can see some sparks up top.

DIANA AGREST AND MARIO GANDELSONAS MASTER PLAN FOR THE XUJIAHUI AREA
From : http://www.ag-architects.com/urban/xjh-master.htm (originally posted by zOrg of the SSC forum)
http://www.ag-architects.com/urban/images/xjh_04b.jpg
Xujiahui is at a point halfway between an old city and a new city. It is made up of a patchwork of separate and distinct areas, such as a cluster of historical buildings, the Shanghai Sports City, the Design and Decoration Center, the Universities, the Medical Centers, and the Shopping around Xujiahui Square. This patchwork is further characterized by the lack of balance between the rapid growth and the quality of urban spaces. The future Xujiahui should hellp establish a new balance that would maintain certain existing elements and variety offered by the patchwork, while new elements would be created and overlapped to produce a new dynamic development.
While there is great potential, we also recognize that some problems have developed as a by-product of the great speed at which Xujiahui has developed. With the high densities produced by the development of the district in the last 10 years and the increased use of cars, traffic has become a serious problem for the fluid-functioning of the district. Traffic congestion, overlap of conflicting traffic functions, and parking problems are some symptoms. However, we consider that one of the major problems in Xujiahui is not traffic but the general lack in both the quantity and quality of pedestrian and public spaces.
Our project envisions Xujiahui as a green cultural district where museums, new public spaces, entertainment centers, cultural institutions, and hotels are organized as a network. Our Vision, based on some of the wonderful qualities of the district and on the city’s tradition and past, guides our plan as the road that should lead to its future. The various types of green will not only beautify the city and create pedestrian friendly spaces, they will also serve to bring sustainability to the city. Our project transforms the district into an International Urban Center, where the present centralized retail activities will be balanced and enriched by a cultural network of institutions and places as well as by a new Business Center.
XUJIAHUI SQUARE
http://www.ag-architects.com/recent/images/xjh-sqr_01b.jpg
The Xujiahui Square is the most prominent space in the Xujiahui area, and as such, it embodies the identity of the district. It needs to become a symbolic space rich in character and activity. At present, both cars and pedestrians are plagued by a poor circulation system: heavy traffic congestion is accompanied by a set of complicated pedestrian links between the five corners that frame the intersection. This new Xujiahui Square will be framed on the northeast side by a semi-elliptical water basin with a fountain pedestrian bridge which crosses over Zhaojiabang Road, and on the northwest side by a large fountain shooting up to 40 meters into the air. The space around the fountain and underneath the bridge will have outdoor cafes where people can gather and rest.
XUJIAHUI NEW BUSINESS CENTER
http://www.ag-architects.com/recent/images/xjh-bus_01b.jpg
http://www.lanacion.com.ar/anexos/imagen/06/488944.JPG
The proposed New Business Center will be located to the west of the Xujiahui City Center. One of the main concepts for this plan is to breakdown the scale of the super blocks by overlapping a grid sized to accommodate the footprint of a large tower. Our plan also allows for smaller footprints to create a scale more related to the pedestrian. This provides space for green areas of different sizes to punctuate the plan. Larger gardens surrounded with shops and restaurants can also provide a focus to the office area. We propose multiple building scales and programs (both commercial and apartment hotels) in order to create a 7 day/24 hour district. Finally, we propose the development of a major skyscraper.
SHANGHAI SPORTS CITY
http://www.ag-architects.com/recent/images/xjh-sports_01b.jpg
The Shanghai Sports City can become a citywide sports area serving residents throughout Shanghai. Our plan proposes a new major park that includes public and private facilities. The basic concept is to replace the present landscape that is mostly paving with a new green topography. This new topography is created by an undulating landscape of low hills, under which are placed a variety of sports and commercial activities, surrounding the existing main stadiums and gymnasiums. A 70 meter x 650 meter linear strip framing the north-east side of the park lies under a blanket of green and will include several private facilities that will offer an array of sports activities.
XUJIAHUI FILM CITY
http://www.ag-architects.com/build/images/xjh-film_01b.jpg
http://www.ag-architects.com/build/images/xjh-film_02b.jpg
The Film City is defined by programs related to a variety of film related activities: A School of Film or Film Production companies and their related businesses including a Cinematheque, a Film Museum, and a Film Center. This building consists of a glass envelope that encloses a group of old existing film studios, the new Museum of Film and a number of other related functions. It’s glass-clad envelope will also provide a large interior public space. It is framed by two towers forming an urban gate along Caoxi Road. These two towers are framed by a wall of lower residential and office buildings. Linked by several bridges across the road, they will contain a new luxury hotel, with conference facilities, a gymnasium, restaurants and cafes.

I love Xujiahui Square. That fountain looks sick.
The heart of Xujiahui is definitely at the subway station, and it lacks any sort of cohesive planning. This is what happens when you have a ten year boom without any vision. The area is a giant jumble of department stores, cars and banal architecture (Grand Gateway twins are the exception). I like a lot of Diana and Mario's ideas, and god knows the city has the funds to realise them.

I have some questions too...
1- There is supposed to be approved a Skyland Mansion phase 2 in the plot next to the three first towers. I wonder how many other towers are going to be built. When, how tall and how many floors.
2- In this image, we can see renders of two beautiful towers supposed to be approved: Fortune World (X3-1) and another one in X3-2, whose name is something like Shanghai Union Bank, not sure. But does anybody know what is it going to be built in X3-3 plot (the one between both others)?

3- There are many plots getting ready behind and around Grand Meliá Hotel. Somebody should provide more info about all those projects (I would myself if I knew). Same question about all that amount of land in North Bund Area. There must be many approved projects nobody has writen about here.
4-Third Lujiazui Supertall. The plot currently occupied by a cricket? yard. When are they going to publish the final design of that tower? What's going on with that plot? I have read that the tower will be 300-360m, no more, no less. Sad, Shanghai deserves a 888m tall supertower. Bābābā Tower! Good Luck tower! Keep dreaming :D

This is awesome. I used to live around there.

Thanks, Shanghai Fan.
I hope the Itochu buildings looks better than the rendering. Blech!
So that IS the SIFC site. I was wondering if it was or not, because I was sure that the construction of these towers would be bigger news. I'm cautiously optimistic about it. They may just be laying the foundation now to commence construction on a later date. I'll be one happy fella if a see a crane there before summer's end.

Hi everybody,
I read in 2004 in a local dutch newspaper that a man, called Karel Aalbers, was involved in a mega-project in Shanghai: Future Dome.
It's now 2 years later and I haven't read or can find anything about the project (which had to be finished in 2010 for the world expo).
Does anybody know if the building will be build or is there a website with the latest info that it will be build? Or is the project cancelled?
XUJIAHUI NEW BUSINESS CENTER is very futuristic. I'm impressed.

This rendering has just been posted on the Xitek forum. I'm not sure if it is planned for the plot just next to the Global Financial Tower or to replace Sandi's Pei X3-2 tower (I hope not).
The planned height is 200m (same for the three planned buildings on this block, a bit too regular). I don't anything about the construction status.

Here's a picture of the building--however the pic is a couple of months old--so it is without construction:

JieFang Headquarters
Although it is a 19 floors high midrise, it's probably one of the best design in Shanghai (it won 2004 MIPIM Future Project Architectural Review Award for office category). Bright design, ecological architecture with hightech double skin : all its neighbours will suddenly age fast when it will be completed.
The building is an extension of the JieFang Daily News Building on the same block. They will be connected by two skybridges.
It will stand on the block next to the HongYi Tower.

The Shanghai KISS
A British based team lead by Alsop Design and Arup are to create a landmark structure to attract visitors to the World Expo 2010. Located on the Puxi side of the Huangpu River, the 250 m tall “Towering Kiss” will offer panoramic views over the historic Bund and the ‘Bladerunner’ vista of Pudong.
Alsop Director Stephen Pimbley outlines the project, “The sculptural tower is set to rotate every 4 hours whilst a series of visitor pods travel up and around the legs offering unique and exciting views which will be forever changing as the kiss rotates and as the city of Shanghai evolves.”

Yeah, I don't know about this one. I searched extensively online in both chinese and english sites, but all I came up with was a one paragraph article from 2004--minus the pictures even. I don't want to spoil the mood, but it looks like there hasn't been any word at all about this for two years.

Oh, thank you, avcellvss. I'll post more unknown renders, you may be able to help to identify more ones!
I really hope they don't choose that boring proposal for the B6-4 project, the proposal which looks like a flame is so cute...
It's sad to know that the Fudu Mansion Tower will have to compete against the old X3-2 project. Two amazing projects but only one of them will become real :(

Don't. The Fudu Mansion project is for the X3-3 plot not for the X3-2 plot.

Concord World project, Jingan
According to Emporis:
Phase I: 2x 100m and 37 floor towers (completed in 1997)
Phase II: 4x 100m (approved)
Phase III: 1x 288m (approved)
We need info about this huge development...
I found two renders at John Martin's website, but this architect is not supposed to be involved, so it may be an old rejected proposal for the phase three tower.

I'll always applaud Shanghai for taking architectual risks, but with it comes a huge downside. I hope that this Queen Elizabeth of buildings never sees the light of day.

^Actually I think the building would be all right if it weren't for that top hat up top--Fred Astaire was never huge over here, so there really is no reason to build a monument for him. Otherwise I like the look of the rest of the building.

I also admire Shanghai for the risk-taking mentality when it comes to architecture - and even if there's a downside of it, the overall quality of the new building designs in Shanghai has been really high.

It's just that Shanghai has this weird fasination with putting eccentric hats on top of their buildings. Leave that to the british royals.
I admit that the building would look nice without the hat. The same can't be said for Queen Elizabeth II.

What's going on over there? Any highrise proposal?
BTW, since Lujiazui is totally full already there should be launched a new CBD for massive skyscraping construction within 2010, don't you think so?

It's doesn't look full.
It's not nearly as dense of the business districts of NYC and HK.
