I wonder what the twist stands for. It's like the ECB is struggling to do something unnatural... which I hope it is not.

When is Frankfurt HochVier planned to be completed ?
Also, is that the ECB's HQs final design ?
Also, is that the ECB's HQs final design ?
If I got it right, that's the one I (re)posted above. Frankfurter posted plenty of renderings in the previous page.

Airrail is just perfect  I love evergreen glass-rooffed patios/promenades. They are great especially during North-European cold dark winter days.
Why such location (over train station)? It's more difficult to construct building there I guess, but proximity of rail station and airport would be a big plus for businessmen (I hope appartments will have sound-proof walls :sly: ).
Opernturm looks like being drawn with wrong perspective, a little funny. May look interesting from some distance

It is about 2 years I went to Frankfurt but as I can remember there ia a part of the AirRail Centre built actually known as FFM Flughafen trainstation or am I mistaken ?
I thought the ECB already had a headquarter building? Is this new one just extra office space, or the "main" headquarter of the headquarters, or something else?
Good to see some progress in Frankfurt, I wish many skyscrapers upon Frankfurt. :)

The Opernturm without spires will be build (last rendering). [unfortunately]
Max is probably dead. No news for years now.
UEC is dead as well. We might see a new project at this location. The land is just too valuable. Most probably a smaller shopping center with some more entertainment, office and residential. The city council didnt like the old concept which had too much retail space.
The KIA Europe HQ is UC right now. It almost topped out.
And thanks for the pics of the airrail center. By the way, the little glass dome will be included in the airrailcenter.
Marieninsel (250m) is still on track. Construction should start in 2010. Desctruction of the old bulding in 2008-2009(?).

Frankfurt , the great awakening !
NEUE MAINZER 55 - 57
LOCATION:Frankfurt, Banking Distrist, Neue Mainzer Strasse 55 - 57
FLOORS:55
HEIGHT:197m (646.2ft)
ARCHITECT:KSP - Engel & Zimmermann
FACTS:
* twin-tower structure, 5th tallest skyscraper in the city
* a 9 storey building (already empty) needs to be demolished to make way for the development
* project has been approved, construction could start immediately
* the office space is currently being marketed
* Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS) wanted to rent over 400,000 sq ft there, but decided to go with a neighbouring project, the 170m (558ft) OpernTurm, resulting in construction of the 44 storey tower (about to start) - taking up the last big contiguous office space in the Banking District
* the chances of finding an anchor-tenant are pretty good, considering the improving real estate market and the shortage of contiguous office space in the financial heart of the city, aswell as the fact that several firms are currently looking for office space in the range of 300,000sq ft or more

New ECB Renderings
http://tannhauser-gate.homeip.net/pics/2007/ecb_2007-02-20_08.jpg
At a height of around 185 metres, the double tower, with its polygonal shape and east-west orientation, has a striking profile that is visible from all important reference points in Frankfurt’s city centre, as well as from the river Main. Thanks to its form and presence, the double tower will become a characteristic feature of the Frankfurt skyline.
The imposing form of the Grossmarkthalle, which so strongly characterises Frankfurt’s skyline and the north bank of the river Main, unites with the vertical profile of the towers to form a significant ensemble that considers both the local urban design environment and the general urban spatial context, thus creating a tension between Frankfurt’s banking district and the Ostend area. By concentrating the ECB’s functions in the Grossmarkthalle, the south side of the premises, facing the Main, can be largely kept free of construction. The prominent view of the south side of the hall from the Main embankment with the clearly visible profile of the high-rise emphasises its special position.
The atrium between the office towers becomes a “vertical city”. Through platforms we are creating spaces, plazas and pathways between the towers, just as they exist in a city. The connecting and transferring levels divide the atrium horizontally into three sections of different sizes, with heights ranging from around 45 to 70 metres. These connecting platforms, bridges, ramps and stairs form a network of links between the office
towers. They create short paths between the individual office floors in each tower and thus enable larger, interconnected usable office spaces on one or more floors in both towers, thereby also promoting informal communication.
Our design reinforces the Grossmarkthalle’s existing potential as an “urban foyer” housing a conference and visitor centre, as well as a library and restaurant, through the incorporation of a building for the press centre which traverses the structure of the Grossmarkthalle. This so-called entrance building, in which ECB press conferences will be held, occupies a special position in content, form and space and thereby marks the entrance to the ECB. Since the western parts of the Grossmarkthalle were reconstructed after being destroyed during the Second World War and do not, therefore, represent part of the substance of the original building – even in the way they are constructed – we propose, as agreed with the historic preservation authority, that the incision for the new entrance to the ECB be in this part of the hall.
As before, the required new facilities are being placed in the spacious interior of the hall as independent building structures (the “house within a house” concept). However, in a revision vis-à-vis the Optimisation Phase, we consider it necessary to express the functional and spatial independence of the other two large functional areas in the Grossmarkthalle in a more pronounced manner. The building structures, which are at diagonal angles to the Grossmarkthalle, allow the hall to be experienced along dynamic
spatial sequences – and this not only in the public areas of the hall’s ground floor, but also on the upper levels, which, with their conference and restaurant facilities, are largely reserved for employees of the ECB. The restaurant structure, as a visible sign of the new functional areas in the hall, generously orients the employee restaurant and terrace towards the Main in the south. Through this strategy we are realising a distinctive entrance on the one hand, and a functional urban connection to the neighbouring Ostend district on the other. The entrance structure and restaurant thereby become visible signs of the new content of the Grossmarkthalle and visually merge with the city, the district and the river Main.

Great photos!
This view will definitely change dramatically in the coming years with 4-5 new major skyscrapers going up between the Messeturm and the DZ Bank.

These are basically certain:
Skyline Plaza Tower One (UEC) - 212m
PricewaterhouseCoopers Tower - 185m
Skyline Plaza Tower Two (UEC) - 160m
Hochhaus Matthäuskirche - 130m
And there are rumors that the DZ Bank will announce a second tower soon.

Unfortunetly you are true; It's only a dream, today. :(
But the site is cleared.
It just needs a go ahead.
I'd be surprised if it didn't come, eventually.

PWC Tower 185 will be a much needed addition to the skyline. MesseTurm has been too isolated too long. The new tower will help it make the connection to the main skyline.

These are the current projects of Frankfurt:
Construction:
1. OpernTurm – 170m (finished 2009)
2. PalaisQuartier Office Tower – 136m (finished 2009)
3. PalaisQuartier Hotel Tower – 100m (finished 2009)
4. Tower 185 (PriceWaterCoopers Tower) – 185m (finished 2011)
5. Skytower (EZB/ECB Tower) – 185m (finished 2011?)
Proposed / almost sure:
1. BahnTower (Campanile) – 210m
2. Grand Hyatt Hotel (“Tower 2”) – 165m
3. DZ Bank-Tower 3 – 180-230m (is waiting for political yes)
4. Kaiserkarree – 130-150m (finished 2011)
5. Degussa/Evonik - some lower stuctures and one ~100m "tower"
Further:
6. Marieninsel – 210-250m
7. Tower Mathäuskirche – 130m
8. Frankfurter Sparkasse - 190-200m
And circa 10 other (not dead!) projects with more than 100 meters.
So maybe we can see 9 or 10 new skyscrapers in 2012 in Frankfurt. Too bad, that there is no new information about the millennium tower (350-380m). :(

No, this is brandnew. :p
Vivico want's to build a 210m tower for Deutsche Bahn AG next to the Central Railwaystation on the areal, where the Campanile was proposed in the 90's. And - oho - the administration of Frankfurt is fine with that. :notacrook:

No, it's a new proposal on the same spot. It has both the backing of the city (in fact it even has the support of the Green Party!!! since it will include a new huge bus terminal) and a major tenant (it will be the new headquarters of the German Rail (DB) in Frankfurt).
The first renderings should be released soon, the only thing that's known so far is the height of 210m, which would make it the third tallest in Frankfurt and Germany, 2m higher than Westendstr.1.

Is the Degussa building still that cubic one , the one that was proposed in the beginning?

Dunno, but i guess so... never saw a new rendering.

I have the feeling the more towers are being put on hold in london, the more towers are getting started in frankfurt. frankfurt will get hit by the worldwide turmoil in the financial sector - no doubt about it. but right now, it seems as if the boom isn't stopping but getting stronger - and all these projects already have anchor tenants.
the bahn tower is pretty certain now - the opposition fell quickly. if we're lucky, we'll see a 230m DG Bank tower too - that would be 2 x 200m+ towers nobody was expecting. plus all the others, that started or are about to start.
the only tower, that I'm worried a bit, is kaiserkarree. it is being redesigned completely right now - the height will be increased from 135m to 150m. that would be the only speculative project right now, unless tishman speyer is in secret talks with somebody. construction is planned to start beginng of 2009. I wonder, if this will really go ahead speculatively, in times like these.
soon we can add another tower to the u/c list:
the skyline plaza development including the grand hyatt tower is starting this year - this has been confirmed yesterday during a debate in the parliament. the development has got the final green light.

The situation in Frankfurt is completely different than in London, given the different group of tenants for whom the towers were planned.
90%+ of the projects in London were aimed at companies from the financial sectors and anybody who has been following the news recently knows about the current situation there.
The new Bahn Tower in Frankfurt has the German Rail as its main tenant, a company that even profits from a financial crisis (people switching from the car and plane to the rail). Also keep in mind that construction companies lower their prices during a recession in order to attract any customers at all during those times. This is also an important point to keep in mind when you think about the construction of the new tower of the ECB, which would get their new HQ for a cheaper price. Additionally quite a few of the new towers in Frankfurt are hotels such as the Hyatt @ UEC or the Palaisquartier Hotel.
according to this frankfurt could become the new headquarter for postbank ... they have a great skyscraper in bonn
