I think it's about time that we finally open a construction thread about this building. The ABBCO ROTANA HOTEL will be the world's tallest hotel when completed. Please post all your construction pictures of the Abbco Rotana Hotel in this thread.
Facts:
Height: 333m (1092ft) Roof, 380m (1246ft) Spire
Floors: 72
Architect: Khatib & Alami
Location: Sheikh Zayed Road (between 21st Century Tower & Al Ghaya Tower)

A beauty of a building and an expensive looking hotel. This would be the tallest "all hotel" building in the world. When does construction begin anybody?
The two renderings seem to have a different top.
And the first one looks more slender, too.
Which one is more realistic ?

The first one is the most recent rendering
OK.
We should expect an asymmetrical spire then, right ?

Personally I'm not a fan. It just looks goofy. Colors, patterns, forms, proportions... everything is goofy. I honestly don't understand what the architects that have designed a lot of those buildings along Sheikh Zayed Road are thinking. Maybe its a culture thing or just personal preference.
I'm continually amazed at the growth in and around Dubai, so in that case I've got tons of respect, but I could really care less for the architectural styling.
BTW, that thing is gonna sway like crazy. Super-tall with a very small footprint. Yikes.

Those construction workers look East Indian.
The design ain't bad. The colours are a bit early 90's, and the roof is...perplexing, but it should be a nice building. I just hate it when they make a rendering where the windows look more like blue wals than windows.

That's an amazingly small footprint for a tower that tall. This will be interesting to watch go up.
On another note, are there any plans to develop towers in the immediate vicinity, but off of SZR? For example, are there any plans to build towers on the street at the top of that picture? That would create some depth to the SZR skyline.

I think the cladding was started up high because the base is different from the rest of the building as you see in the drawing. there could be some things they have to add on the base. I don't know if any one knows this or not. when a building is being built the build everything that needs to be built first like concrete and still then what ever crew can jump in and not effect the rest of the building starts there work. I have only just begin this process in class Its interesting what you can work on well the building is still under construction.
I like the design its small but it makes a statement. Nice pics hope you post it when its almost complete and complete.
