Boy, CNA has really upped their game for this. Fractionally closed windowshades, for the first time that I've noticed. Guess they're readying for a soon-to-be-doubled BCBS.

IIRC, they use sheets of cardboard in the windows, cut to the right shape for the pattern. They did it once before to make the slanted "eyes" when they did the Bears logo for the Super Bowl.

cbotnyse, that really is a wall paper shot. BTW I saw your other photo from the same spot at SCC. They are all worthy.

For those of us not in the know, what on earth are they trying to do with the windows of that building? Is that the Olympic 2016 symbol? Looks great.

The Legacy really adds to the Grant Park views of the city.

Drove past the site today; looks like the tallest part of the "wedge/blade," on the top of the building (the southern end) may not stand as far above the rest of the roof as the renders suggested.

A little concerned about how that's going to work out (and hoping I'm wrong).

Agreed - if you look at the original page 1 rendering, it corresponds to about 1-1/2 - 2 stories which is basically what the Trump mech. screen is in height..

Looks very impressive and "out-there" in the skyline. Almost like getting a front row seat. Good deal.

HOWEVER, a bit off topic, I HATE what they are doing with the 1972 Mid-Continetal Plaza, making the upper 15 stories into modern condos. It's looks utterly silly, and it takes away from the authentic Brutalism-style of the building. Either knock it down completely or leave it as be; as the dark, plain, 70's box that makes it what it's supposed to be.

KORN Live in Memphis this Saturday was amazing BTW. Cheers everyone.

While I don't agree with you on the Mid-Continental PLaza, I give can give you reasons why. I just love what their doing to it, and wished it would be the entire building to get re cladded. I noticed that their now re-cladding more floors under the ones previously re-cladded, can someone confirm this?

Both buildings have some of the best east lake view views in the city.

Legacy’s location is very prime for those that love a view of MP and those that love to see water. The north east and south windows will all have a view of the lake and the sunrise that comes with it due to its purposely designed triangular shape.

Nice rendering George, and I hope that the crown doesn't end up looking like that. not that your rendering isnt awesome, but just cause it would be too plain. Does the glass of this building remind anyone of the Zurich towers in Schaumburg?

From the video: "The lighting strips are approximately 35 feet tall"

Its good to hear that the crown is still on track to be as tall as the renders depict, for whatever reason I had been concerned that it may have been VE'd down to just as high as the recent photos show.

J_M_Tungsten
May 11, 2009, 1:49 AM
So will the rest of the height of the Legacy's crown just be of steel form, sort of like what they are doing for the blue cross blue shield crown?

ardecila
May 11, 2009, 7:37 AM
Correct. It makes more sense to build it out of steel anyway. Concrete makes little sense for something that needs to essentially be a big cage holding the roof penthouse and window-washing equipment. There's no occupiable space inside the crown, so no need to fill it with heavy unnecessary concrete.

Ya, I was wondering about the arbitrary tree that is shown in the renderings. I'm not really a big fan of it as it's totally random.

Cool shot - a never-before seen view of the Monroe canyon.

No doubt Nichols will become a popular photography spot.

Legacy at Millennium Park: True (mostly) Fronts; False Backs

From our tireless correspondent Bob Johnson, here's an aerial view of the Wabash Avenue side of Solomon Cordwell & Buenz Associates' The Legacy at Millennium Park, the 820-f00t-high, 73 story tower fronted by the stripped facades of several Jewelers Row landmark buildings. The metal superstructure that supported the facades while the buildings behind them were demolished has been dismantled. The facades, now pinned to the new low-rise construction that has taken the place of the original late 19th century buildings, are now getting the final touches to their restoration/reconstruction. (Adler & Sullivan's landmark 1882 Jewelers' Building can be seen to the left of the grouping.).....
