Has anybody been to the Target out near Stapleton, they have a liquor section. It's funny on Sunday's they chain it off.
They do? I know they have 3.2 beer, but I thought it was the Glendale Target that had the wine section, and that only one Target in the state could do that. In California, all Targets had a wine aisle.
Also, I think I've bought 3.2 beer from King Soopers on Sunday.

I think 3.2 beer bars should be brought back for kids. But this time do it at age 16. They are gonna do it anyways, you mine as well give them a place where they can be supervised, and they can still feel cool by drinking in a bar even though its only 3.2. Ever seen Dazed and Confused?

I would agree with that, except I think teens of today are no where as mature as teens of generations past. I honestly feel the driving age should be moved up to 18 too. I know there are many responsible teens, but I am speaking of the majority.

I think that they arent given the chance to be as mature. We shelter them from everything nowadays. Kids can barely even play outside without taking an antibacterial flea dip when they get inside.

agreed Navy. Growing up we had metal toys and never wore a helmet to go bike riding. And we did just fine. Then ago, we actually went outside and played. Kids haven't been given the chance, but doesn't change my opinion that they aren't mature. Sucks for the ones who are.

Sorry, but I think every kid nowadays is spoiled rotten. They are irresponsible, ungrateful, lazy idiots. That says a lot for someone who is only 23, but I see it most in my own damn age group. Statistically speaking, I'd say 75% of the people that go to my school (CU-Boulder) are in this category. Part of the problem is that all of them are out of state and rich mommy and daddy have pampered them beyond fathomable status to the point where they are as shallow, boring, and as one-dimensional as a fucking board. All of them drink alcohol regularly, are over 18, and are STILL idiots. To hell with lowering the age, it doesn't change a damn thing. They are still retarded.
That's my generation as I have seen it thus far (the spoiled, dumbass, post gen-Y generation I call the Paris Hilton generation). Don't hold any of us responsible for anything, because we can't even handle doing our own schoolwork or daily stress in life without being drunk, stoned, or jacked up on some stupid OTC drug. Alcohol age is the least of the problems. We should focusing on how people use it properly, which probably won't help anyway.
I feel good about my fellow peers, AKA the retards born in the 1980's. The 1990's batch has yet to prove themselves, but I'm not expecting much out of them either.
Sorry for the off topic rant. I just need to get out of here. School, Boulder, and Chihuaua purse-carrying bitches can take their toll on your soul and lookout on life.

I went to class because I had to.. it was a necessary evil that came along with the parties and social fun of going to college. I was in Denver closing the clubs from Thursday night to Monday night driving back down to CC to show my face in class enough to not get in trouble. I was EXACTLY the kind of kid you are all bombasting in your posts and I'm pretty ok with the way I turned out.
MOST kids and young adults are stupid in at least several ways. To me that's part of the definition of being a kid. In fact if I meet a kid that's NOT being stupid that's a red flag. It means that they are going to end up regressing and messing everything up when they are 30 and realize they never took risks and f'ed up their lives in high school and college enough to mature.
Irresponsible kids doing stupid things are all fine with me. Irresponsible adults doing even more supid things are what's causing us problems right now.

that's because you went to school with the dirty hippies up there at CU...nothing else. you think it's any different today than in ANY other age? you *do* realize that the movie Animal House came out in the 70's, right? that was just college hijinks that everyone knew existed since way back when. it happened at college campuses in the 60's, it happened at the frat houses back in the 40's, it happened with the youth in the roaring 20's....it's nothing new and it will be nothing new. if you think this is any different, you're fooling yourself into a history you never knew.
is also as if people think we're more "sexified" now than ever before. completely false...there are countless tales of people engaging very openly in stuff even today we'd find extremely taboo. That shit's been going on at least 2000 years...it's like they say, the more things change, they more they remain the same.

Exactly, so why should government regulate our lives by telling us we can't have same sex marriages, multiple marriages or sex in public places? I really don't see anything wrong with any of that. It's all part of our animal nature. Plus, the government makes criminals out of chemically dependent people, thus making the chances they will recover, ever so harder. BRILLIANT!!!

I love the 1LP/alcohol thread.
People that went to CU in the early 80's tell me their hero stories all the time. Mountains of coke, parties out to the curbs, people jumping off buildings, knuckleheads collapsing the roofs of their apartment complex by trying to build a beach on the roof (with actual sand).
When I went there in the late 90's, we had to soundproof our houses and black out the windows so the cops wouldn't know there were parties inside. The frats were *technically* dry. I venture to say we way more responsible and well-behaved than the animals who came before us. Not that we had a choice, we couldn't sneeze without summoning the police.

Worker Impaled By Falling Rebar
Victim Expected To Survive Chest Injury
DENVER -- A 32-year-old elevator employee was taken to the hospital in serious condition Tuesday after being impaled by a 30-inch long piece of rebar, according to a Denver Fire Department spokesperson.
7NEWS confirmed the worker, who received a chest injury, is employed by Otis Elevator Co.
The accident happened at a residential high-rise currently under construction near 20th Avenue and Lincoln Street in Denver.
The man was working at the bottom of an elevator shaft when another employee apparently kicked the metal rebar into the shaft from 200 feet above, according to Phil Champagne from the Denver Fire Department.
The incident remains under investigation, according to officials with Swinerton Builders.
Operations Manager Dave Wermerskirchen told 7NEWS the employee underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.
Wermerskirchen said all safeguards were in place when the accident happened, including safety rails and toe boards .
“It’s a bit of a mystery to us,” Wermkerskirchen said.
A spokeswoman for Otis Elevator said the employee’s name would not be released.
Privacy laws prevent hospitals from providing patient conditions without a name so the man's condition could not be determined.
The accident happened at 2001 Lincoln around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. The 32-story building, known as One Lincoln Park, is a condominium high-rise expected to open later this year.
No one else was injured and the accident did not halt construction. Around 200 employees are on site at any given time, according to Wermerskirchen.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate the workplace accident.

Bad news about One Lincoln Park. Someone kicked a 30" long piece of rebar, up and over a toe guard, eh? I guess it wasn't intentionally dropped, I hope? I think a lot of the "roof" will be left open to allow air to circulate around the mechanicals. I believe what we see as the roof is more like parapet wall to hide the mechanicals.
If you look at The Pinnacle on Google Earth - http://maps.google.com/maps?q=2990+E+17th+Ave,+Denver,+CO+80206,+USA&ie=UTF8&ll=39.743173,-104.952993&spn=0.001955,0.003616&t=h&z=18 you can see the top of that roof is open too for the same reason. Once the sides are on the building, the roof will appear "closed".

Do you think the developers went with the white and green color scheme intentionally to mimic 1999 Broadway, or was that completely unintentional coincidence?
If you look at these towers from the southeast, they look like part of the same project. Pretty cool.
Agree with DenverBear as well though, the best part of all this construction is imagining the people living downtown.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the possibility of phase 2 for this project coming to fruition. The only thing I would worry about that might kill future phases is the economy.

That's pretty well how I had figured it would come down, since it has to remove sections of the base as it descends. So my question is this:
Based on its placement, how in the hell is the Spire crane going to come back down when construction is finished?!
I've wondered that as well. It's as if they're just going to build it into the structure.

Spring is finally here, summer is coming and One Lincoln Park's completion is just around the corner! We are now only a few short months from the opening of Denver's Finest in Luxury Living!
With the crane no longer a part of the Denver Skyline, construction focuses on the interior finishes including the 1000's of upgrades to make your residence all YOUR own! Here is an overview of some of the rest of the progress this past month at One Lincoln Park:
Ongoing work on Interior rough-in and finishes
Exterior wall panels and glass is substantially complete to Level 27
The window washing system tract, soffit, and roofing systems were all finished the first of May.
The goal is to complete the remaining building skin within the milestone dates to allow building occupancy in late July.
Activities and building in the lobby began Mid-April
Plumbing and Mechanical equipment installation complete on all parking levels.
The crane was demobilized in Early May.

I haven't seen any, but that's not to say that there isn't any on any given night.

I can't help but wonder how big of an impact this one building will have on light rail ridership.
Any news on what retail is going in there?

When I took their tour and inquired about buying a unit, the salespeople hinted at future "good things" to come on the adjoining empty blocks - although that could just be their way to bait the hook. Regardless, the empty lots seem like they're in a prime position for development, especially when you consider the increased vitality of Uptown just to the east and the proximity to downtwon. Broadway/Lincoln is the main north/south blvd through the city so this area is right in the middle of the action. this is slightly off-topic, but if the city would have the foresight to install streetcars running along this route, I guarantee that you would see a huge amount of private investment follow suite.
Imagine the convenience of jumping on a trolley on north Broadway and letting it drop you off at Civic Park, or the museums, or the shops along south Broadway, or even at the RTD connecting Light Rail station at I-25 and the nearby $1B redevelopment of the Gates property that will be a great example of TOD infrastructure.

In my opinion, Denver really needs to take the next step and invest in more more urban transit options to springboard future development. Ask anyone who lives in a city with Streetcars and they not only love them, but talk about them with civic pride.

I hope that the salesperson was basing that talk on the post-alleged-fraud charges of the OLP developer. I remember that he did promise to remake that entire area, as OLP was the first of several. However, that was several months before he was charged. I think if 1800 Glenarm gets remade into the Mondrian that will be a good sign of things to come.

According to the Colorado Real Estate Journal, the 1800 Glenarm property changed hand on June 3rd from Residence Glenarm LLC to 1800 Glenarm Place LLC. The sales price was $6 million.

So, does that mean that it's not being developed into residential units?

:previous: Not sure, but there's a new dumpster on the 18th St. side and the ground floor has been cleaned up quite a bit while I was out of town earlier this week. Looks like something is happening.

Things at Mondrian slowed down for sure but 2 weeks ago they dropped a new HVAC unit on the roof and blocked 18th for a few hours on Sat. morning. I'm sure they would not have spent that chunk of change if things had stalled out. It will certainly be another asset to the "other end" of downtown.

Although they're having real trouble selling the remaning units. They've been at ~80% for nearly a year. They have a variety of units, all over the magic $500,000 price point remaining.
I think Spire is doing this right, trying to get as many units under that $500k (or over about a million) barrier is really important in this market right now.

Workers on a 25th-floor balcony at One Lincoln Park at East 20th Avenue and Lincoln Street have a great view of downtown Denver.
Radio personality Tom Manoogian, who is a small investor in One Lincoln Park and bought a unit there, gives a tour. His company, Major League Marketing, also is marketing the project.
On Sept. 22, the first residents will begin moving into the 32-story, $140 million One Lincoln Park, the first luxury condo tower built in Denver's central business district in more than 25 years.
So far, 144 of the 180 units have been sold in the building at Lincoln Street and East 20th Avenue, across from the Welton light-rail station.
The remaining units range in size from 882 square feet to 4,330 square feet and are priced from $375,000 to $2.574 million. Monthly homeowner association fees range from $288 to $1,414.
"We think it is the best-selling condo project in Denver, in a very challenging environment," said Tony Mallardi.
He and his wife, Sacha, bought a unit on the 11th floor for about $485,000 and spent $26,000 for a second parking space and about $80,000 on upgrades - including a custom-made glass bar and fancy tile - for a total of $591,000.
It has since appraised for $610,000, Mallardi said.
"I believe it is going to be an excellent investment," Mallardi said.
Legal problems from the original developer, Erik Osborn, haven't scared buyers, said Ed Cerkovnik of Breckenridge Holding Co., which heads the development group for the tower. Cerkovnik replaced Osborn.
Osborn is facing charges of felony theft of $255,000, including diverting $147,000 from One Lincoln Park. Osborn has said repeatedly that he did nothing wrong.
"Erik's legal problems really haven't had any impact," Cerkovnik said. "The project itself is such a signature building," he added. "People are interested in the building because of the architecture, the quality, the amenities and the location."
The building was designed by the Buchanan Yonushewski Group and was built by Swinerton Inc. Construction began in the spring of 2006.
The main investor is car dealer Doug Moreland, known as "Dealing Doug."
A smaller investor is radio personality Tom Manoogian, known as "Lou from Littleton." His company, Major League Marketing, also is marketing the project. Moreland and Manoogian both have bought units at One Lincoln Park.

Hey I got a question: did they plan for when it snows? :haha: Remember Cashie had to get heating coils installed after they forgot that snow would slide off the slanted roof and fall 700 ft to the people below. I could see the same happening on OLP to those balconies on the 25th floor and up...
