I just hope these will not be 'dead' buildings where you walk by them on the street and thats about it, it would be nice if they were incorporated together like all of the stuff on K Street (where the IMAX is), where you can interact and enjoy the city.

Regardless, with Sacramento...and everything around it being as flat as a board, it will be cool to see the skyline grow.

When I drive in from Reno, there is a part of I-80 just after Auburn where you go from twisty freeway to the long straight-away going into Sacramento. You are 30 miles from downtown and at about 675 feet.

Right as you go around this last corner, you can look on the horizon and see downtown if it is fairly clear, this view will only get better.

Maybe Rob could help you out with that, Mike.

innov8
Sep 20, 2006, 5:31 PM
I don't think press credentials would do it. The problem they have over at 555CM
is they want me to have "bond" of $1 million to be able to shot from there... they
say I am a liability. I even offered to sign a document saying they would not be
liable and I can not sue them if I get hurt on the site, but that was not enough.

Here's the underling issue... 621CM has snatched away one if not more of
555CM tenants and they are not happy about it. I think because I am
remotely associated to 621CM by taking pictures of the project they have
decided to take their frustrations out on me. While I was in the bldg. management
office discussing this they hauled in another guy who was also "lingering"
around to long. They have changed their security level at the building and
it's noticeable. If you do try to get some photos from the top of the garage
be sure the parking attendant on top doe's not see you cause he will have
security on you right quick.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this isn't the full footprint of the building going up at this point, right? It looks like the front half facing Capitol Mall, but the back portion (the parking garage, which I presume will be concrete) has yet to go up. Any idea when that will start?

Looking good, but I thought they would've built it a little taller to begin with.

I don't think they're done yet. The smaller crane obviously can go only so high. After that, additional sections are "slipped in" if you will, as the building rises.

This has always facinated me and I admit I am not sure exactly how they do it -- but my understanding is, they disconnect the verticle part of the crane at some designated point, then lift the upper portion up with hydraulics, and then they slip a new section in, bolt it down, etc...

Then again, I could be way off. Anyone wish to add???

So many cranes!

That multiple cranes picture reminds me of a view from 20th street where one can see the little one for the condo project on L street (whose name currently escapes me) and the Marriot's hovering in the ditance. I'll try to take some intiative and go photoshooting this weekend. Anyways, Cool Stuff. Thank you.

Speaking of the Marriott, does anybody know when it'll open for business or to general public?

No, your wife knows Christmas is coming and is on her best behavior :p

I hate to say it, but the progress in Sacramento just seems to be dragging, where as I drove by downtown SF on Saturday (it was torture to not get off the freeway and spend some time!), it looks amazing, lots of stuff happening!

SF had a jump start on Sacramento, and well... it's San Francisco.
Two years ago only one project was in the pipeline which is the 621CM, the crane
you see in the picture... and that had been in the pipeline for three years
before that. Ya gotta get off the freeway to see what's going on.

It's gonna be cool to watch the steel rise, and the fact that it will be topped out in May is so cool.

The Business 80/Highway 50 bridge, is my favorite view of the city. Mainly because it's the only place in town where one can see the skyline close up and at a decent height. Sacramento's too flat:( Great pictures.

Just in time for my next trip home. My nephews graduation from high school, birth of a new neph/neice, my Birthday and to top it off 621 (pun intended)

^ I like that view, man there will be a nice cluster from that angle in a few years. Looks like 621 has picked up the pace, I can't wait to see it poke through over the lower buildings.

Serisously. 621 will look gooood from that angle (density wise).

There's going to be some serious density on that end of Capital Mall.... Hopefully somebody will come forward with a proposal for the old Sacramento Savings site at 5th and L. I'm pretty sure with everything going on down there, that property will get some looks.

It's incredible how fast a steel frame can rise, once they begin.

Good to see...
