yeah look at innov8's and its at 12. And those picture were posted yesterday... And when i drove by 2 hours later that floor they had halfway done at the top was completely finished. I need to keep an eye on it cause they are going to have to raise the crane soon and ive always wanted to see how the hell they do it lol

haha its also good to see a portapotty at the top so if someone has to answer the call of nature they dont have to go all the way down. I wonder if they used the crane to lift it up there...

I drove through downtown visiting family over Christmas and finally got a real feel for how this building will effect the skyline. It will fill the big gap between Renassiance Tower and US Bank Tower when driving south on I-5 approaching Richards Blvd. (one of my favorite views of the skyline). I really hope Aura goes up - it'll fill in that hole so much more from that view.

it appears they have hit the max altitude for the crane (no new floors have been added for a while, all ive seen are welders on lower floors) Anyone have any idea when the crane is gonna do its next jump. Also according to the rendering on the us bank tower website the height its at now is about when they start doing some of the lower panelling... i *have* to see how the !@ they build those things haha

bennywah
Jan 10, 2007, 11:01 AM
^

well before they can begin facade work, they need to do fireproofing which last week while i was up in sac didn't look to have begun yet, but it is tall enough that assuming fireproofing begins soon will see some glass panels begin to get attached, and then you start to get a really good idea of how this tower is actually gonna look.

innov8
Jan 10, 2007, 7:13 PM
Your right benny... they have begun to fireproof the parking garage along
the L Street side. Tarps are up around the sides of the floor to prevent the
winds from blowing through.

Those things go up a lot slower than i thought they would. Litterally. If i didnt have the bars for reference i wouldnt have known the thing was moving when they were raising it. Not to mention the time it takes to actually install each section once its fitted in place.

Hey, I remember that 621 was supposed to have some really cool lighting accents at night but I have yet to see a rendering or see that ellaborated upon. Something about a lighting system that could replicate hundreds of different color hues on the skin of the building. Not much to go on from the official building website. Anyone have a clue what that might entail?

innov8

The latest construction update for 621 CM. Looks like the lack of rain has pushed the project ahead of schedule. The tower feature will be completed in April, rather than May, as in earlier schedules.

U.S. Bank Tower
Construction Update as of January 30, 2007
􀂙 Steel erection is complete through level 19
􀂙 The hoist is jumped up weekly following the steel erection activities.
􀂙 Metal decking is complete through level 16
􀂙 Concrete has been placed through level 12
􀂙 Fireproofing is complete through level 3
􀂙 Pre-welding attachments for the curtain wall is complete through level 7
􀂙 Precast concrete panel deliveries commence in mid-February, installation will start on west elevation.
􀂙 Glazing will commence first week in March. The main lobby feature glass will
commence in May.
􀂙 Elevator work commences in April.
􀂙 Roof steel tops out first week in March.
􀂙 Tower feature steel tops out in April.
􀂙 Contractor has had mentioned some impacts associated with extreme cold
(temperature impacts ability to pour concrete) and high winds (impacts ability to jump crane). No official delay claims have been submitted, and in fact, we expect that lower than normal rainfall has had a positive impact on the schedule.

Wasn't the EPA building supposed to have something similar? I remember something about it back in the day, some special lighting on top, but turned out to be cost prohibitive or something to that effect, so it will be interesting to see if this pans out ....Same thing with the renovated Downtown Plaza in the early 90's: there was supposed to be this beam of light shooting to the sky from the Rotunda section where it would be visible for miles from the Valley floor...I never saw it...Only one that has kept it's promise of some sort of special lights/lighting is that Esquire tower, which was also built by taylor? that gives me hope :)

Feb 8, 2007, 4:45 PM
The EPA did still light up the top during the holidays till two or three years
ago... they stopped when California had that power problem. Lighting up the
top was then seen as waste of energy and environmentally unfriendly.
I also remember the mall doing the laser beam from the Rotunda... they
often changed the beams colors. Those were the days.

Not the greatest pic cause of the weather and cause it's from a tower cam, but if 621 is on the 20 floor with only 5 left to go, it still looks a little short. How high is it to the flat roof? And then how tall would that make the crown/architectural feature?

Nice to see that 621 is filling in that gap.

CalSTRS is much further along than I thought.

BTW, the EPA ornamental lighting was built as cost effect low energy usage lighting (similar to the Ziggurat), so that it would cost very little to light up.
It's a shame the state is so cheap in the Capital City of all places..

Very nice pics. I love the close-ups, and I'm glad I get to see it just about as it's being topped off.

So like, they might light it up a few times to test it while the building is under
construction... but it will for sure be lit up when the towers complete

Thanks -- remember, everyone, the wine is unfiltered. I've been opening up bottles and finding more sediment, but like I've said before, it's normal and yummy, so no worries!

Yes, I know I've been a stranger -- been working long hours. I peek in from time to time but haven't written much -- I read my Sactown mags and everything else to keep informed. Miss you all !!!

Sactivity, Do you bottle your own wine? If so, you selling?
Also, you mentioned SacTown Mag's- are you implying there are more than one? Ive only recieved one issue-and looking foward to the next. Being in New York im not up-to-date when the issue comes out in the stands.

Well, I'm going to wait till it's up on the tower more. They
have clear glass installed on the ground floor facing Capitol Mall.:hmmm:

I think you meant to say "that's my cue". If you were in a queue, that would imply you would have to wait to take your pictures, and you should never have to wait to take your pictures. Hell, they should have your usual spots roped off from the general public to give you exclusive access during all times of the day. Looking forward to seeing some glass on this one.

Not sure if anyone is aware of this cam. I live in the burbs but keep up on the project via this cam site at KCRA. FYI

^ A very slow refresh rate but not a bad view. Nice view of the 621 from the Raley Field cam.

I'm a newbie so i'm not sure how these things work but can anyone really picture the Capitol Grand in the mix of buildings there. With the leadership or lack there of in Sac do you really think a structure that size will move forward? I ask because when you look at these cam pics that building will dwarf anything there now and it seems to be a very conservative city for that type of project. As someone from the burbs who does not come downtown as often as I would like I would love to see these projects in place and really give me something to make the 30 minute drive worth it. As an example, Innov8 had some nice pics on this thread and the streets in of them make the city look like the Omega man movie. No life in downtown! Add living space = add people

Anyone else notice that since a day or two ago the picture looks vertically stretched?
