There were hundreds if not thousands of these architectural marbles in Taiwan built by the Japanese. I will try to post a couple surviving landmarks from time to time. Hope u guys enjoy these majestic architecture wonders as much as I do! ^___^
oh! & before any pro-KMT attack my posts, all I can say is that I really don't mind to post a historical thread on buildings under KMT era. However, they pretty much all look either temple or box-like, lacking of true aesthetic and conservational value IMO (for example: Taipei City Hall).

gorgeous buildings. in the past, i've wondered why the taiwanese didn't destroy all the japanese built buildings after the war the way the koreans did and rebuild. but now i'm less against it and appreciate these buildings for what they are: beautiful architecture. and yes, much much better compared to buildings like taipei city hall, probably the most dullest, unimaginitive, uncreative city hall ever recently built.
how come it's hard to find pictures of the house where the taiwanese president lives? i understand that the red 'presidential palace' is where he works, not where he lives. does anyone have pics of his residence?

President lives in 玉山官邸 (Yushan). I think is rather difficult to find photos on his resident. It is considered as a national security site.

Don't need bravery, I didn't hide, I didn't get any closer than you can get, noone ever told me that I cannot take pictures of government buildings, unlike private ones. I had some problems in Neihu Technology Park, though I was always on the street taking photos of the buildings from the outside. I wonder what Taiwanese law says about taking pictures in public places.

This set of presidential office is right on the money!! I guess the difference between you and the other Taiwanese photographers is that you would not mind the "surroundings."
By that I mean, the guards, taboo tomb stones or perhaps hidden monitor cams at government facilities that we don't know. I can tell you that perhaps the past tyrants ruling in Taiwan still somehow haunted me, whenever I see those guards, the only thought cross my mind would be to quickly walk-by.
There is no law that prevents you from taking the pictures at these places that I know of. Nonetheless, the seriousness surrounding atmosphere created in these sites normally would put a stop to people from wanting to take the "close-up" photos of the buildings. It's all in our minds I must admit. Nonetheless, you and your master photo skill had definitely prevailed and overcame the whatsoever obstacles may be. Props to u!~

I used to attend elementary school across the street from this building (忠孝國小) in the late 1980's and early 1990's.
That is too bad.
The gov't should still try to restore the building to its original look,
so that the bad guys who burned them will not able to achieve their goals.
:hell: :hell: The number of historic buildings in Taiwan is already limited, so that best effort should be make to preserve them.
