@Taylor: The building was drawn in 2:1 scale. But some details were added after converting it to 1:1, so there's no real original drawing...

Agreed with Gulcrapek... *cough*St.JohntheDivine*cough*

St. John the Divine is the cathedral which started construction in the 1890s and isn't expected to be completed until 2050...just like the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona...right??? Is there even an existing plan of this cathedral of what it will look like one day when it is finished?

Gulcrapek
Feb 29, 2004, 5:46 AM
Yup, there are blueprints for everything. The only problem is money. They have next to none. They're currently raising funds to repair the cathedral after the 2001 fire, not even close to resuming building construction.

Jai-C
Mar 1, 2004, 12:33 AM

Why has your swiss Re have perspective on the right side?

Nice drawing BTW.

Taylordaman
Mar 12, 2004, 4:26 AM
Holy crap... You are just... well... words can't describe how good your drawings are.

Jai-C
Mar 12, 2004, 5:51 PM
Thanks a lot :)

@Jonny - There is no perspective... just a new technique in highlighting drawings I'm experimenting with.

John Hinds
Mar 12, 2004, 6:56 PM
No.
On the right hand side the floors are 1 pixel higher.

Jai-C
Mar 12, 2004, 7:32 PM
No.
On the right hand side the floors are 1 pixel higher.

No they aren't :D

If a building's is being lightened up on the side through transparency of glass then its floors will look dark (compared to the fascade). But if lightened up from the front they look bright and will drop a shadow... I combined these two effects - so you just confused floors and shadows!

John Hinds
Mar 12, 2004, 7:44 PM
I had a closer look and in the middle of the right side the floors are 2 pixels higher up in places.
Yet at the base and top they are 1 pixel higher and 1 pixel lower.

It may be a new lighting effect, but it is also called perspective.

Jai-C
Mar 12, 2004, 8:47 PM

Oh dear Jonny - I slowly get the impression that you just don't want understand....
you know I've been drawing for more than a year now and I know the damn rules - if there was any mistake I would just replace the wrong layer and correct it but there isn't! My drawing techniques are lightyears ahead of yours so this feels like explaining quantum physics to a child.

I suggest you lay down your membership of the approval committee due to incompetence and stop bothering ambitious illustrators.

Oh Jonny
Don't be so immature!
You have to to accept that there are better illustrators than you.
It's your own problem when you didn't use programs like Jai-C.
Use MS-Paint (that's obviously!!!!) and please do not nerve us anymore
THX:)

@ Jai-C very good drawing
Aber warum zeichnest du überhaupt ein Diagramm für England wenn die Teetrinker so undankbar sind?

Oh, I can just see where this is going.

Samuel-

Was ist so schlecht mit die Teetrinker? Vielleicht ist das Diagramm nicht das Best, aber John gut meint.

Jai-C-

Das Diagramm war sehr gut gemacht. Ich denke daß du mehr für London zeichnen sollst. :)

R@ptor
Mar 13, 2004, 1:37 AM
No.
On the right hand side the floors are 1 pixel higher.

Who cares about a floor which is 1!!! pixel higher? The drawing is simply great and definitely the best for SwissRe until now and that is what counts.

John Hinds
Mar 13, 2004, 9:33 AM
Its turned into an "i'm a better drawer than you" thread for what reason now?
I never said I was a better drawer than Jai-C.
I said I liked the drawing, I like it alot.

But it's pretty obvious that the "new lighting effect" makes the drawing look like it has perspective on one side.

caw123

Yes write it in German, we wont be able to understand that we are 'ungreatful drunkards'

It does look like it has perspective, wether it does or not, it looks like it.

Samuel
Mar 13, 2004, 11:21 AM
@caw1123
I wrote it in German because i don't no the word
"überhaupt" and "undankbar" in English. So it was easier for me to write it in German.;)
and when I talk to Jai-C why should i write in English....

@Jonny 5 and i don't said that you are worser. But you criticize many drawings even if they are very good!
For example
One Canada Square(page 12)
Who cares about trees??:???: :sly

John Hinds
Mar 13, 2004, 12:03 PM
^I didn't say you said my drawings are bad.
Read Jai-C's post.

One Canada Square's nearest tree is almost 15m away from the base of the tower.
And they are only skinny things at the moment.
View across the One Canada Square Plaza (Notice no trees anywhere near the building)
http://skyscraperpage.com/gallery/data/622/9dsc00153.jpg
So why should he draw 2 big bushy trees on it?
I never said his One canada Square was a bad drawing (its better than mine) I just asked why he had drawn 2 big bushy trees when none exist.

Why am I not allowed to ask those sorts of questions?

Buck
Mar 13, 2004, 4:03 PM
This argument ends right here. Any others posts related to it will be deleted.

Jonny- face the fact that sometimes you are wrong. And don't badger people.

I know what technique was used here, I've tried to use something similar to it before (but it didn't come out nearly as well as it does when SPE uses it). It may appeaar to be perspective, but its not. Its the way the windows are shaded.

Samuel- watch it. Next time I see you insult someone or a group of people, you will get more than a warning.

Chris M
Mar 14, 2004, 3:59 AM
Nice drawings SPE!!!
I was going to draw Swiss Bank Tower in London but you beat me to it! :D
It's quite a complicated building to draw. How long did it take you?

Jai-C
Mar 18, 2004, 10:06 AM
I really don't understand that... I've always been trying new techniques to make drawings look more realistic. I thought it was our common goal to improve the diagrams until they look like photos...

Now you tell me that my drawing was deleted - not for violation of rules but just for looking like. Considering that this was an attempt to achieve even more realism in a drawing this is very disappointing for me. Actually I feel like being punished for my perfectionism :(

Altogether I'm doubting if I should go on with drawing for this site. It has been my intention to improve my skills until I could achieve a photo like look but you stopped me halfway. Maybe this is not the right place to develop my full potential - maybe I aimed to high.

@Jonny - Sorry for insulting you I shouldn't have said so.

Guys, I noticed on diagram of Hong Kong - USP6 was deleted. :(
Why?

Cliff
Mar 19, 2004, 4:43 PM
Actually, it does not matter if the tree is there or not, in a diagram, everything is in one straight line, and if you continue to draw and draw, it will extend until the curvature of the earth prevents it.

I think your drawings are great, and to find flaws in your drawings when it is more accurate than anybody else's is just plain bias.

Just an example if a wrong drawing not noticed:
http://www.skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=3031&drawingID=3029

You know you are respected here and lots of us like you, don't leave.;)

And none of the diagrams in this site are perfectly accurate, it's too extreme if a tiny mistakes were made.

Cliff

I don't know, but sometimes SPE deletes his own drawings to make way for improved versions of it, like the BOC.:)

Jai-C
Mar 20, 2004, 8:34 PM
Yes I deleted USP6 myself because I didn't want to have it in my diagram anymore.

I modified 30 St. Mary Axe so that it doesn't look like violating any rules:

The Empire State's not too shabby. One suggestion would be if you could shift the center setback one pixel to the right. It looks just a little uneven. Otherwise, sehr nett, ja!

No height is confirmed, but I estimate 110 meters to the roof and 122 to the top of the spire.
Seems to me more like something around 90m to the roof and maybe 110m to the spire...

by the way, your 2IFC is only secondary i think it must be as primary drawing
I neither know why it wasen't chosen as primary nor am I the person to decide these things.

Requests are welcome, but as there are so many of them I cannot guarantee that I will finally draw them.

ESB = perfect. That is great. But I like your old IFC more for some reason. I think you should keep it in your personal diagram still.
