Don't the Bank of America and NY Times towers seem to have cheap hight grabbing spires on them? They both look a little too tall for the buildings.
buildup
Nov 20, 2006, 3:12 PM
I agree westsider. Not only are they too tall for the tower they don't fit well with the design of the tower itself. BOA was originally 945' in height with an undefined "spire". The NYT tower has always looked rediculous.
gripja
Nov 20, 2006, 6:14 PM
I think the NY Times Tower looks okay but I'll agree that the BOA Tower has a pretty disapportionate looking spire.
buildup
Nov 21, 2006, 11:55 PM
Well, that "pole" on top of the NYT tower isn't a spire to me. Spires are more decorative and slowly taper as they rise up to a point.

Whatever it is it looks out of place. Rectangular towers with flat roofs have no business adding a 200 ft pole on top so they can claim 1000 ft.

Wow, take away Miami and Las Vegas and the fabulous diagram above would be pretty small.
huh? why single out just miami and vegas for their current skyscraper productivity? NYC and chicago have the same number of projects on the under construction diagram as vegas. and the projects in NYC and chicago are typically taller than the stuff in vegas and miami to boot.
city - # of projects U/C in the diagram
miami - 8
NYC - 6
chicago - 6
vegas - 6
san fran - 2
philly - 1
charlotte - 1
mobile - 1
LA - 1
atlanta - 1
dallas - 1
sacramento - 1

Looking good, great work. Definitely a great asset to have.
Wanted to inquire what the cutoff height was for the diagram, I'm guessing 600ft. If thats the case then I think I've got a couple of projects to add in the Charlotte arena.
-210 Trade (Part of Epicenter development) has been under construction for a while now, hasn't begun to rise off its foundation however its poised to go vertical anyday now. 53 stories tall, residential condo's, 601ft. Completion in 08 last I heard. Info at: www.210trade.com
-The Vue - Hasn't started construction officially yet however permit's have been issued so site prep should begin in the next month or so. Just giving a heads up to keep an eye out on this one. 51 stories tall, residential condo's, 668ft tall to its spires. The height for this was found a while back on a site plan.
