Precisely, and this isn't the only forum on which he does this. There are several instances (possibly up to 5 over at SSC alone), and the one thing they all share in common is the same horrible grammatical styling. And it's all negativity for the sake of negativity, and it's usually common knowledge news which had been reported eons ago (apparently it's fun to dredge them up, especially seeing as they actually are becoming lesser and farther between).

Pathetic life? That's the understatement of the century. And to think that some forumers have him on ignore. For shame, I don't know what I'm missing...

Downtown projects map

Since there are actually a lot of projects happening downtown, I thought I'd try to make it a little easier to see what those are, and have all of the information in one place for simplicity and organization. So I made this map just now out of that idea, hoping that it might help keep all of the information that everyone puts in this thread in better order. I also have that covers the whole of Buffalo in progress.

I haven't added everything to it yet, because I just wanted to get this up before I go to bed and then to class at UB later on, and to be honest, I'm not even sure of everything out there. Hope this helps.

Those are excellent, thanks for showing me. The reason I made that one was because I just couldn't find any, but I always knew that there probably were some around. I just couldn't see how there wouldn't already be something like that because someone definitely thought of it before I had, I guess I just didn't look hard enough. But those are great, just what I was looking for, thank you.

But anyway, is there any status update on the progress of Statler renovations or the Courthouse construction? I haven't seen anything about them in a while. I like the apartments in "the freezer" a lot. It would be great to see that building being used, it's a good building in a good location.

Those look familiar! I need to update them, maybe at the end of the year.

That would be great wcp, those maps are excellent. I was also pretty bored tonight and decided to play around with Google Maps and make a little mashup just to see how it would turn out, after seeing those maps that you made. It's a nice way to visualise but not at all better than yours, but still interesting. If you want to see it, it's at http://gregduh.googlepages.com/map.htm but it's nothing too special, just a product of some boredom.

Cheektowaga’s ‘hospitality row’ growing

By Sharon Linstedt
Updated: 09/15/07 7:19 AM

Cheektowaga’s growing “hospitality row,” along Genesee Street across from Buffalo Niagara International Airport, is getting another player — an upscale, $15 million “aloft” hotel.

Manga LLC, of Mississauga, Ont., has filed plans with the Town of Cheektowaga for the proposed eightstory, 149-room hotel to be built on Burgess Boulevard, just off the 4200 block of Genesee Street. The aloft chain is one of the newest nameplates for Starwood Hotels and Resorts, whose stable of hotels includes: Westin, W, Sheraton, Four Points by Sheraton, St. Regis and Le Meridien.

“It’s nice, new and trendy. It will be something brand new to your area,” said Manga President Sukhdev Toor.

Toor, whose company owns and operates six hotels in Canada, plus the Holiday Inn in Lockport, said he targeted the Cheektowaga site because of its proximity to the Buffalo airport.

“It’s a great location because it is so close to the airport, and there are no boutique hotels there. This will be geared to a 20 to 40 crowd that wants a very modern place to stay,” he said.

Starwood unveiled the “aloft” concept in 2005, describing it as “a radical departure” from traditional hotels, with loft-style rooms, featuring high ceilings, edgy furniture and fixtures, wireless Internet connections, MP3 docking stations, flatscreen TVs and oversized showers.

The hotel also will offer guests indoor and outdoor gathering areas that are designed to promote social interaction. The chain calls its workout facilities “re:charge,” and its lounges are dubbed “re:fuel.”

With room rates ranging from $129 to $179 per night, “aloft” is a less expensive version of Starwood’s high-end trendy “W” hotels.

“It’s for people who want something more than a typical hotel experience, but it is still affordable,” Toor said.

Seems like that little strip is going to be packed in a few years considering how everything is going up. It will be great as long as they don't build a casino or whatever over there, but I'm pretty sure that's nothing to worry about anymore. There must be a lot more visitors here than I thought, seeing how many hotels are going up just in Cheektowaga.

I like the concept, and I believe something like this is needed, but can't they make the dam thing more attractive than that. MY GOD! The Perry Projects look better than that.:yuck:

underbuilt market.

here is the first Houston aloft. As you can see the design is basically a marketing theme.

Looks like we got the better deal. Height is good. Now can they put a second downtown in 204 Franklin?

steel Sep 17, 2007 3:27 AM

The so called trendiness of these hotels seems quite thin

Downtown Bolivar Sep 17, 2007 2:11 PM

^^^Yeah but it's nothing that can't be renovated into a new brand come 10-20 years from now.

impressingagent Sep 18, 2007 12:09 AM

sounds like a nice project and if i had to complain about anything, I see a glaring weakness in the car canopy.(the word does not come to mind). The idea looks like a rainbow meeting a bar code and is not as imposing as the sharp corner glass. I know its just a 3d rendering but im sure im not the only one who things it takes away from the strength of the project.

how is everything else going in buffalo?

The problem I have is not with the design, that brown-Badge
just isn't attractive. The Houston aloft looks better.

I do like the height of the Buffalo proposal though.
Still, I hope it gets built. A taller version of the Houston hotel would be ok.:)
