The incredible thing about the Chrysler is that it was essentially a cheaper building than what was originally supposed to be constructed on that site.

mrskyline Sep 27, 2010 6:57 PM

Was it cheaper because they used brick instead of stone?

New York State Senator William H.Reynolds sold the development to Chrysler as a result of the economic downturn before the building was redesigned -

One of the greatest lobbies in any skyscraper today. Too bad, modern towers are not built with this same kind of grandeur.

Amanita Dec 5, 2010 9:13 PM

Sadly alot of clients view lobbies as a waste of space, according to one book I read:(

ethereal_reality Dec 5, 2010 10:31 PM

Those are the best photos of the lobby that I've ever seen.
It's like an art deco fever dream.

the greatest skyscraper in the world!

sky i am in awe of your lobby shots  wow! -- i have the same, but mine did not come out well. too dark and crowded in there when i tried it (on ohny day), much less my limited talents and crappy point n shoot haha!

MolsonExport Dec 10, 2010 10:58 PM

The lobby is mind-blowingly fantastic.
