http://www.hamilton.ca/NR/rdonlyres/...__PED13053.pdf Hamilton Downtown Multi-Residential Property Investment Program (HDMRPIP) – 137-149 Main Street West http://www.hamilton.ca/NR/rdonlyres/...__PED13052.pdf The Hamilton Downtown Multi-Residential Property Investment Program (HDMRPIP) application for the redevelopment of 137-149 Main Street West was submitted by Jackson Hospitality Inc. (Azim Kassam), the registered owner of the property. The property is presently a vacant commercial lot. The applicant proposes to develop a 73 unit, seven (7) storey apartment building. |
This is the former HMP used car lot. This block is really BOOMING!
The developer is the owner of the Days Inn at Main St. |

Awesome! Funny how we were talking about this lot the other day and now the official proposal comes out.

Yeah, I hope the architect does something interesting. But, hey, another parking lot is getting filled in. That's a great thing.
I thought Dennis the Menace (lame, sorry) owned that lot. http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...psb683ec2a.jpg I'm still waiting for news on the other block. http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps10eaa98c.jpg |
that is one boring looking proposal! That's too typical. Hamilton is better than that.
|
Holy hell I'm a happy Hamiltonian living next door to this. I feel like the slot machine winnings keep coming!

The city could certainly use some newer rental units.
|
Hamilton lacks luxury rental apartments big time. Luxury meaning a rental unit with central a/c, dishwasher, laundry, etc.
|
Hope this project is more inspiring than the Days Inn further down the street. http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Hotel_Revi...n_Ontario.html

It looks like this project is going ahead. Paul Wilson has written a piece on RaiseTheHammer.
According to the article, construction is about to begin with a planned completion by September. That's a very aggressive (and somewhat unrealistic) schedule! |

"Some on the SkyscraperPage forum have seen the drawing and been underwhelmed. "That is one boring proposal, too typical," one commenter says. "Hamilton is better than that." Kassam says that's not fair. "I'm not using stucco here. This is brick and stone." Glass too, along the street level, which will be the apartment's lobby, party room and gym." Quoted from the RTH article. It looks like our opinions are seen as expert! But really that rendering is bad in every way. Hopefully, although I don't care for the surprise, he is right and it will come out tolerable. Luckily for him he has given us all low expectations. |
Went past this today and was that they have an excavator on site and have pulled up a lot of the asphalt.
|
it will include taking down the tiny building on the corner, right?
Now will the owner of the Arrival Inn please tear that piece of garbage down. That southern stretch of Main from Hess to Bay is so horrible. |

I'm assuming we'll get a better rendering at some point...if not, I'm with PBRSTREETGANG on this one when he says that we can live with the parking lot until someone comes up with a design that will add value to the area. |
