Post pics of your home
Just curious what people's design tastes are around here :)

Okay, I'll go first - hopefully not last. :haha:
You are probably already familiar with my preferences. A front lawn makes me feel like I'm camping. If my house isn't attached on both sides, it makes me feel like I'm out around the bay. I need a neighbourhood where everyone is living on everyone else's lap. I'm also a big spender on experiences - concerts, poetry recitals, fancy dining, etc. is where my money goes - so although I have a middle class income, I needed a working class neighbourhood. I chose Rabbittown, just outside the old town core, the majority of which was built between the two World Wars for returning soldiers. http://i67.tinypic.com/30rqzyp.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/22z43r.jpg Based on experience living in St. John's, there were three mandatory things for me when choosing a home: 1. $150K or less. Not interested at all in the suburban bungalows for $400K. 2. It had to be on the opposite side of the street from the light poles. I didn't want wires right outside the window. 3. It had to be an area where people do things on their FRONT steps. So I got this purple one with the orange door, which just felt right as soon as I stepped in. And the colour scheme is the same as Fred's Records on Duckworth, so... you know music is more important to me than anything else in culture. http://i63.tinypic.com/14wr5lj.jpg http://i63.tinypic.com/1441rue.jpg Inside I went the typical St. John's style of contempory floors and accent pieces with 70s style colours plus a splash of your favourite rowhouse colour - in my case, turquoise. http://i64.tinypic.com/snzzgg.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/5fqicg.jpg |
Very nice place!! And kitty, I wish my place allowed pets :(

I'm currently living with my gf in one of my buildings. It's in the heart of downtown and recognizable so if I posted the outside it would be basically the same as giving away my full name and identity here (not that it would be a catastrophe, I don't have anything to hide, but it would still feel somewhat weird) given that property records in this province are fully public.
I have pics on hand of most of my units, so here's pics with some random tenants' belonging in it. That's where I live right now, except with more (and different) furniture. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/808/4...7c531579_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/873/4...2bd69e1d_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/814/4...fb56a39d_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/821/4...1466747f_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/788/4...8c7d9ff3_b.jpg |
P.S. we've currently got cats, but that one above isn't mine (and the pic is old, I didn't try on purpose to match SignalHillHiker's pic with a cat in it! I remember that day, my tenants' cat was following me all over the apt as I was taking pictures. :))

So jealous of the place and the abundant cats lol! I'll post pictures of my place later (I am on the ground floor and a cat from one of the neighbouring buildings comes to my door so I steal her for a few hours :p)

Given that the thread's been kind of hijacked already, I can share the feline contents of my home as well, I suppose.
We adopted a bunch of kittens recently. The pics may not be in order but they're now a few months old and are bigger than in the first pic (the last pic is closer to their current size). We gave two to people close to us and ended up keeping three of them, the little grey one (Greyson) and the two silver tabby sisters (Miss Meow and Princess Purr). They're all very spoiled. :) https://farm1.staticflickr.com/817/2...fbc7d35f_o.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/809/4...d0aa706b_o.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/899/4...fa16d507_o.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/816/4...d9234b80_o.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/901/4...26a9a3c8_o.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/804/4...080dc525_o.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/899/2...1f5a6995_o.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/786/2...a5304b74_o.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/883/2...fccf54a1_o.jpg |

(A quick search reveals it's an early 1910s jam factory in the gay village, so I wasn't too far off :)) |

I used to own a bigger loft in the Quartier International but I sold it to build myself a house in Ontario and I bought that small place. |

It's the second time I deal with subcontractors directly, I just pay 10% to the general contractor as "project management". I hate cookie cutter condos. |
I remember when I was in school I vowed I would never live in one of the crappy generic condos in Downtown Toronto. Well when it came time to find a place downtown after graduation and I had the opportunity to own a great unit with a view, I ended up in one of Pinnacle's crappy, generic condos downtown...
You quickly learn that the external appearance of the high-rise you live in plays almost no part in your well-being. I'm a 5 minute walk from work at Bay and Wellington, the amenities are great, and I have an unobstructed (for now) East view. I love sitting on the balcony in the summer and watching the massive freighters docking at the sugar factory, or seeing the planes come into land at the island airport. I'll get to watch some of the monster Lakeshore towers go up over the next year, and then probably look to move somewhere on King West. Don't have any good interior pictures, it's basically a bachelor pad now until I get one of my friends who works for a design firm to help me do something decent with it. https://i.imgur.com/L7X7dbwl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/vrPV6ji.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/5eQXU8H.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/G38jyqP.jpg?1 |
This is what I could afford in Vancouver:

The classic "Knotty Pine" style! Never goes out of fashion. Nice Toronto micro-condo you've got there :)

Nice places and cats in this thread. I especially like your classic Montreal-style walkup apartment, Lio. Having so many rooms lined up like that makes for potentially long walks inside your living space, which to me feels so luxurious.
I'm also envious of that black bathroom. Some day we'll redo our bathroom so that we can walk into the shower. Some day. I can't post any pics of the inside of my place. It's totally my wife's design playground, I just happily do what I'm told and/or stay out of the way, and she's a fairly private person, so she'd never allow it (even though she wouldn't know about it, as she barely knows or cares what I do online in my spare time, it would be a betrayal--plus her artistic sense is so funky and distinctive that it would be weird for anyone acquainted with us to happen upon this page somehow and immediately recognize our house). But here's my shed out back. Where do you apartment/condo-dwellers keep all your gardening tools and bike stuff? https://i.imgur.com/1EvUGbc.jpg |
