A PC-correct bullshit name because the prior mascot was the "Indians".

No relevance to the school though. None at all.

I'd have gone for "Boilermakers", "Puddlers", or the "Breakouts"

CSU Pueblo

Big game for CSU Pueblo this weekend, I hope they can pull it off.

GO THUNDERWOLVS!

COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY-PUEBLO (2-1, 1-0 RMAC) at No. 15 CHADRON STATE (2-1, 1-0): The Chadron State College football team will host Colorado State University-Pueblo in a crucial, early season Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game this Saturday at Elliott Field. Kickoff is set for noon.

CSU-Pueblo, which revived its program last season after a 24-year hiatus, will be playing for the first time at Elliott Field.

Both teams won their season openers, lost on the road the second week and posted victories last Saturday when the conference schedule began.

Chadron State won last year’s game in Pueblo 32-0 after the ThunderWolves were forced to start a true freshman at quarterback following the loss of their starter because of an injury. The Eagles outgained the Wolves 462-211.

Pueblo opened this season with a 28-23 win over Eastern New Mexico although the Greyhounds launched 78 passes and threw for 513 yards. The ThunderWolves picked off five of the passes to help notch the victory.

The Aggies (Utah State) march in to College Station this week to face another team of Aggies (Texas A&M). No surprise here, I'm going with the Aggies.

CSU Pueblo Thunderwolvs WON!

The score was 28 to 17!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That means the Thunderwolvs are now 2-0 in the RMA Conferance!

:whip:

From their newspaper:

CHADRON – Colorado State University-Pueblo used long pass plays to score 21 unanswered points in the second half and its defense intercepted two deflected passes in the fourth quarter as No. 15 Chadron State was trying to make a comeback en route to the ThunderWolves’ 28-17 victory.

The win is CSU-Pueblo’s first-ever win over Chadron State and it ends the Eagles’ 28-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference winning streak.

Rams 3-0 after beating Nevada 35-20

Dion Morton threw for one touchdown and caught a pass for another and the CSU defense came up with five takeaways today in a 35-20 win over Nevada.

The win makes CSU 3-0 for the first time since the 1994 season and only the second time since 1977, with the Mountain West Conference opener at seventh-ranked Brigham Young a week away.

CSU quarterback Grant Stucker threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Morton in the third quarter and ran for a 35-yard TD in the fourth to ice the victory, the sixth in a row for the Rams dating back to last season.

Morton's passing touchdown came on a so-called double-pass play in which Stucker threw a pitchout overhand to the receiver in the left flat. Morton then threw downfield to tight end Eric Peitz, who was three steps beyond the nearest defender when he caught the ball at the 5-yard line and ran into the end zone to complete a 25-yard scoring play.

John Mosure scored CSU's first touchdown and his third of the season on a 1-yard run midway through the first quarter. The score came five plays after DeAngelo Wilkinson recovered a fumbled pitch in the Nevada backfield, giving the Rams the ball at the Wolf Pack's 23-yard line.

Morton also threw a touchdown pass to Stucker on a reverse-pass play in the Rams' 24-23 win last Saturday over Weber State.

The Wolf Pack scored a touchdown on the final play of the game.

Nevada, which was shut out 35-0 in its season-opener at Notre Dame, picked up two second half touchdowns by Vai Taua three minutes into the second half.

CSU-Pueblo number 1 in RMAC????

Now for the local take on the victory. Could CSU Pueblo be number one!

You might call it the shot heard 'round the world, at least in terms of the RMAC football world, as CSU-Pueblo did something no RMAC team has done since 2005 - go on the road to Chadron State, the three-time defending RMAC champion, and earn a win, knocking off the conference lynchpin 28-17.

Not bad for a football program in just its second year of competition.

It was just one year ago that Chadron State entered CSU-Pueblo's Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl and treated the Pack like its personal ragdoll, routing the ThunderWolves 32-0 and upsetting the Pack's then 2-0 start.

Suddenly, CSU-Pueblo is a legitimate first-place team in the RMAC, tied with Nebraska-Kearney with a 3-1 record overall and 2-0 in RMAC play. Four teams in the RMAC have a 2-0 mark after Saturday's slate of play, and one of those teams, Colorado School of Mines, heads to the ThunderBowl next Saturday.

Bad day for Utah football. On an almost-positive note, the Utah State Aggies kept it competitive in College Station, with about 73,000 fans. They lost 38-30 to Texas A&M.

This Utah State team is WAY better than what we've seen the last 10 years.

A 1 loss BYU or Utah team will probably end up higher than an unbeaten Boise St team... Something to watch for.

That is a good thing about division 2, we have a play off system so we know who is number 1 not what some coach thinks who we don't even know.. Lame. Personally I can care less who they think is the best team.

not when the team utah lost to is the SAME team BSU beat...
BYU on the other hand... possibly.. to be fair I wouldn't rule that out..
the WAC is a pretty easy schedule I would agree.. but the false hype of the MWC is a bit ridiculous considering BSU is 17wins against 1 loss with the MWC...
I would like to see boise state and washington state switch conferences.. with BSU in the Pac 10 and WSU in the WAC
just sayin...

You sure about that record Hoss? I'll give you a couple of clues. The MWC was formed in 1999 and TCU didn't join the MWC until 2005..

Get back to me on that record.. BTW, the combined record of the MWC teams BSU has beat is 44%... Nothing to brag about. You lost to our second place team last year as the WAC champ.

BTW, the P10 is all about being a research university conference.. BSU doesn't make the grade..

bronco(bsu) Student Sep 21, 2009 10:24 AM

Wasatch-One, I agree. BSU's schedule is far to soft this year, and the rest of the WAC(except for Idaho, who's only loss is to a respectable Washington team) isn't doing us any favors. Besides, a one loss BYU or Utah team would have to play at least two more ranked opponents, and possibly three(if CSU beats BYU next week) giving them one to two more quality wins than BSU. However, if Fresno beats Cincinnati(which based off what I've seen isn't likely to happen), Oregon wins out(again, very unlikely), Tulsa wins every game except for the BSU game and BSU to really lays it on them(OU did beat them 45-0), and the other WAC teams can win OOC, then BSU might not be passed up by a one-loss BYU, Utah, or TCU.

Oh, and Boiseguy, just because BSU has beaten the MWC in the past doesn't mean that the MWC doesn't deserve the hype it has gotten. Hell, when a conference has three ranked teams(as opposed to one), a winning record against the Pac-10(as opposed to getting destroyed by them), and a convincing win over an SEC team in SEC country then said conference is going to receive plenty of earned respect. The MWC is a solid conference that has more than one horse pulling the cart. The WAC however has one horse pulling around the equivalent to eight tons of lead. Every conference has bad weekends OOC every once in a while, this was just the MWC's turn.

utenation Sep 21, 2009 3:34 PM

Great post.. Right on the money. Good luck to BSU this year..

Evo5Boise Sep 21, 2009 4:04 PM

Yes, Boise State does have a winning record against the MWC. You can argue against whom and when, but that is fact.
