Interesting! Thanks for the rendering.

The owner is really getting wealthy nowadays.

The only problem with the hotel is the location, way over the East end of Hamilton. The only attraction is Carmens itself so its likely most of the room hotels will only be overnight stays.

great idea, but BRUTAL location.
Thanks for the rendering.
where did you get it?

LikeHamilton Jul 5, 2008 8:49 PM

Sign out front!

Actually this is a great location. You can see Carmen’s coming from the west along the link. With this height you will be able to see it from a both directions. There are no hotels or motels in the area (East Mountain and Upper Stoney Creek). This is an area that has a lot of small industries, small businesses and a lot of homes.

I agree with Like Hamilton. I think its a great spot for it. Besides its more hotel rooms. I wonder when we might see construction start?

I'm okay with it. It's directly joined the banquet hall. Mercanti probably saw how much money he was losing to wedding guests staying at the Sheraton.

It's amazing it's 8 floors with only 60 rooms (woohoo tallest thing built on the mountain in like 30 years), he obviously wanted to keep the precious parking lot so it's built up and not out.

hammergirl Jul 7, 2008 3:00 PM

It's not far from the Linc/Parkway at all.

It is a bit industrial park-ish though. We usually have our out of town customers stay at the Courtyard Marriott on Upper James - easy to get to, easy to get to our place and lots of restaurants around. This could be an alternative though.

SteelTown Jul 7, 2008 3:16 PM

It looks pretty spacious seeing how there's 6 floors and 10 windows, meaning each floor will likely have 10 rooms and therefore a total of 60 rooms. The first two are likely just a lobby, perhaps Carmen's will have a restaurant of it's own.

the Madison is 11 floors.

^ right. forgot that. Second tallest then.

Its nice to have something tall south of Mohark Rd. Thats what i really like.

It's about time, Wallaceburg even has an eight-story building.

raisethehammer Jul 8, 2008 10:51 AM

I still would like to know who will stay here?? It's not near anything.

flar Jul 8, 2008 11:54 AM

I'm sure it will be very sucessful, just like the banquet hall. If you drive along the Hanlon Pkwy in Guelph you will see several hotels in the middle of the industrial park there, and more up along Woodlawn among big boxes. Guelph has a beautiful downtown, but their hotels are all on the extreme outskirts of the city. It's too bad visitors to Guelph won't see its beautiful stone downtown, and it's unfortunate that visitors to this new hotel will only see the parts of Hamilton that look the same as every other city.

LOL.... no kidding

It'll be for wedding guests. That's the bulk of the venue's business.

Note: I hate going to Carmens.... for anything.... because it is in the middle of nowhere. I get ready for a good nite out and as soon as I pull onto Stonechurch it ruins the nite for me already, the surrounding wasteland doesn't compliment a nite dressed-up with somewhere to go.

SteelTown Jul 8, 2008 1:19 PM

That bowling alley across the street that closed I believe will be demolished and turned into retail.

markbarbera Jul 8, 2008 1:47 PM

I think Mercanti has dreams of one day transforming the site into a full-fledged casino. But today the hotel clientele will mainly be guests of weddings and the occasional Elvis impersonation show, and mountian philanderers.

With the economy getting softer I wouldn’t be too surprised if Dalton lifted the moratorium on new casinos. Especially when the province is lobbying the federal government to reform the gambling laws to allow sports betting. Braley also wanted to open a casino in Hamilton as well (he wanted in downtown though - Convention Centre), perhaps future partnership.

yea, just what we need in a soft economy.
More casino's.

It would be nice for once if the government and media would encourage people to get out of debt and start living within their means, especially with a possible recession or worldwide mini-depression on the way. Putting all my money into a casino is the last thing that should be happening right now.

realcity Jul 8, 2008 5:23 PM

Macaluso works for Carmens. That would be cool if he headed up a Casino. :)
