City Grids at Night

I think one of my favorite types of pictures to look at is that of city grids (is that what they are called, by the way?) If you guys know of any good websites where I can buy some cool grids as prints, let me know because I can stare at them for hours. Here are a couple cool pictures I have found on flickr.

That's it for now. If anybody has any other cool ones, I'd love a new desktop wallpaper...

Yes, that's definitely cool.

Wow, very cool. The first one of Chicago doesn't even look real.

Spectacular...

If you ever have an opportunity to fly from San Diego to Seattle, DO IT!

Some carriers have a flight pattern over Los Angeles and (others) San Francisco. The only big difference is that once you achieve about 20K feet above (as you would in that type of fly-over), then it is truly spectacular.

Funny... man-made things look great from the perspective of distance; Nature, on the other hand comes through with things that look fantastic close-up.

Thanks for posting the photos. "Ya did good"! :stunned:

I just think it's amazing that man has achieved something like this.

I like the first pic. I always get a thrill flying over or into cities at night.

I always have this song running through my head when I fly...

Quote:

I was flying into Chicago at night
Watching the lake turn the sky into blue-green smoke
The sun was setting to the left of the plane
And the cabin was filled with an unearthly glow
In 27-D I was behind the wing
Watching landscape roll out
Like credits on a screen
The earth looked like it was lit from within
Like a poorly assembled electrical ball as we moved
Out of the farmlands into the grid
The plan of the city was all that you saw
And all of these people sitting totally still
As the ground raced beneath them thirty thousand feet down

Not surprising, she's from the North Shore (went to New Trier).

Those Moscow shots are AMAZING!!!

The circular rings that emerge from the middle...it looks combogulated and unorganized but in reality the city grid system is very good for that of an old, European city

wrendog Dec 24, 2007 1:28 AM

These shots are very cool! Thanks!

This one is completely amazing. I have never seen anything like this.

The grid system, while terribly boring as such, surely is impressive seen in situations like this!

I love the city lights, of the night.
