I saw a spider crane working on the building the other day. I've never seen one in Halifax before.

Thanks for the pictorial updates, kph06. It looks like it was a chilly day to be taking pictures.
This looks good so far. The protruding glass panels gives it a modern look. It would be good to see the glass extend to the top of the slanted roof peak. Based on a picture posted previously by Dmajackson, I believe that will be the case. (source: Dmajackson) http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6188/...4e5f1062_z.jpg |

It was actually pretty nice, right around 10 degrees Celsius. For a retirement home its looking pretty good, but for the site I would say its mediocre unfortunately. However it is better then I expected it would be. |
Standing in front of the cathedral, looking left and then right and then at the cathedral, the 'cathedral' looks quite inconsequential. Before it looked impressive, but is now dwarfed by the other two. Perhaps not what the cathedral owners had intended, but at least they have some revenue coming in.

Well I think this is looking great. The arched roof may seem strange but viewing it from the VG lands it blends in well with the Catherdral and the other building on the block.

Thanks for posting the pictures Harlington.
I think this looks much better than was expected by many on this forum. However, the exterior cladding will probably make or break the design. I hope it will be a good exterior finish, then it will look great, in my opinion. I really like the glass detail with the glass extending up to the roof peaks. |
I must admit , I am more impressed than I ever could have though and is much larger than I tought it would have been.... even if the retirees living there do not make a huge impact on spending in the area I would imagine the workers and people visiting would be a small help..... and any little boost in the arm is good

The large windows are excellent!!
I find them very appropriate considering the cathedral nextdoor, which some forumers were unsure as to the development's suitability. |

That picture really shows how lacking the street-front presence of this building is.
|
Lacking as much as its neighbour...
I'm actually very impressed with this nearly completed residence. Perhaps my expectations were too low, but I had something much worse envisioned. |
I envisioned something that looked as if it belonged in Clayton park, so I'm quite impressed.

It's not the end of the world but it's not great.
The All Saints Cathedral itself was built in a somewhat unfortunate location. If it were at the terminus of a street then it might have remained prominent without any restrictions on the neighbouring lot. As it is now there are some unfortunate "tower in park" style setbacks that have failed to accomplish much. Imagine if instead of this Victoria Park were lined with Trillium-style storefronts and the cathedral were situated at the southern end of the park. It would look far better. |

I do agree it would look better, but I'm not horribly offended by its current location and its new neighbour. Let's just chalk it up to God! |

Has the exterior cladding been started on this project? So far this development looks great. |
