[Burnaby] Station Square | 35,38,48,41,52 fl | Completed
Not sure why no one discuss about the proposed redevelopment.
I think it deserves a new thread. Artist's rendering of what Station Square mall could look like in about 10 years, from the entrance on Kingsway, looking east http://media.bclocalnews.com/images/...NGSWAY2011.jpg Picture from Burnaby NewsLeader Quote:
Details of the proposal from Anthem Properties is in City of Burnaby's manager's report for the Aug. 29 council meeting Page 12 and later has the proposed site layout and some rendering of the 5 residential towers. A public hearing was held on September 20, 2011 at City Hall. |
better renderings?
Love to see some if/when they are available. Up to 57 storeys!! Looks as if Metrotown may just live up to its name, in due course.
|
Looking at the zoning stats, I'd say the most telling part is the listed areas. 2.8M Sq.ft Residential, 660K Sq. Ft. Commercial. Pretty big stuff.
It looks like the big towers are set back into the development, while the smaller (less big maybe?) ones are on the corner of McKay/Kingway and on the NE corner of the property. I'm a bit sad none of these are office towers, but hopefully Metrotower 3 will be up before ground ever breaks on these. |
Find Station Square story and pics here...

Does anyone know the status of the development application?
The following stores in the Station Square property area have been or will be closed/relocated. McDonald’s inside Save-On-Foods - closed a fews weeks ago Thai House Restaurant - will be relocated after Feb. 15 (notice posted at the door said the relocation is due to major renovation at Station Square) Sleep Country - will be relocated to the old Nood location across the street |
Hmmm. That's encouraging.
|
Heh. The part of the property facing the bus loop looked quite dead of late with the escalators having halted... now I know why. If anybody needs me to take a look after school I could do that. =O

More shops disappeared from Station Square. Nexus Hair Design and Philip Chow Tailors had closed.

I can't wait for this development. Station Square is one of the most anti-pedestrian, carcentric, suburban style developments in a city centre.
|
Wow, that will be huge. I hope the renovations to the Skytrain station are taking this all into consideration.
|
To put the scale of this redevelopment in perspective, Station Square will add more residential, a similar amount of retail, and nearly as much office space as the Ivanhoe-Cambridge/Westbank redevelopment of Oakridge Shopping Centre in Vancouver.

Go Metrotown! |
I'm interested in how you will all react when the renders are released. I think it looks pretty decent. It's like a Burnaby take on Yaletown.
|
^That does not sound good at all.
|
There were renders posted or referenced earler in the thread with the rezoning application

These residential towers will soar over 50 meters above the Metro Office Towers lol |
Sucks they are starting with the shortest of the bunch.
