Thats what I was actually wondering.

Haven't seen the exhibit yet, but JUST bought my tickets to the Norman Foster talk at UPenn! So excited. It's at the Museum of Archeology. Literally right next door to his future Penn Hospital tower. He has to at least mention it, right?

Take copious notes and give us a full report. |
i went to the exhibit the night it opened. Unfortunately there was zero indication CITC will be any higher than 1,121ft. Most of the displays and pics are already available on the CITC page and elsewhere. The most interesting part of the exhibit was the notes and sketches Foster made as he was developing a design. Originally the building was almost Jetsonesque with a big bagel like sphere at the top. Several other iterations were very bland to me and looked shorter than what it is now. Honestly the current design is much classier and more interesting than any of his early ideas.
Last Friday i spoke to a worker at the site who told me the crane was arriving tomorrow (saturday)...so whatever is going on with the crane is news to everyone....including those on the ground |
Honestly I think the reason we haven't seen a crane is probably because of revisions in the design, that's my theory about it. Perhaps they just used what they had for the exhibit. But I am interesting on that doughnut feature your talking about on the earlier ideas.

I don't now if its just me but I think I see the bottom portion of a crane right above the core in one of the Comcast webcams.

Yeah that piece is a tower piece!

The black frame on the ground at the northwest corner of core looks like a 'Cornell' labeled crane component. It doesn't look like there's a red crane section at the very top of the core.

Cranes are coming people! You see the where the red crane will be directly in front of the core (at FMC it is used on the core) and where the black crane will be next to the core on the right (at FMC it is used for assembling the steel structure). I would think this weekend is the weekend! |

It looks like the Cornell crane base is being installed on top of the steel structure in the southwest corner.

CITC-Foster Exhibit
So I walked thru the Foster-CITC exhibit - posting are a few photos - but I will not post that many here in case you all want to check it out. (tons are on the Flickr link if you want to view).
Some observations - it's definitely 1,121 feet. Two, Foster definitely was toying with a Jetson's type circular, spaceship top. Clearly, the top was something that took a lot of time deciding on, before going with the lantern. Three, I hadn't noticed the vertical lines as much -- I always focused on the zigzag cladding down the sides and the horizontal lines. But looking closer the vertical lines might end up giving CITC an almost WTC (the original) type look. Which I really liked seeing. Four, the inside of this building is going to be insane. CITC is going to blow away Comcast Center - imho. Thanks. Ah, that's for sharing. Comcast Center and CITC will certainly continue to standout in our outstanding skyline. The kid in me keeps thinking that Comcast Corp. has two buildings that look like a USB thumbdrive and a walkie talkie radio, respectively...LOL.
