MEXICO CITY | Torre Latinoamericana | 545 FT / 166 M | 46 FLOORS | 1956
Looming over the Bellas Artes and the Alameda district of Mexico City, the Torre Latinoamericana immediately created a lasting skyline image and stood in 1956 as one of the tallest structures in the world outside New York City.
While it has long since been eclipsed, the tower is still the 4th tallest building in the city and anchors the eastern end of the Reforma. The tower has a very similar form and massing to the Empire State Building, but is built with an all glass curtain wall. There is a multi-level observation deck on the top floors which IIRC was free (including access to the roof). I actually found it odd at the time that you take the same elevators to the deck as the office workers on the lower floors. Oddly enough, this is one of my favorite towers in the Americas. I like the massing, proportions, and it stays completely true to the style it's shooting for. It still manages to look modern, new, and fresh despite the staining brought on by the city's significant air pollution.

It looks like a smaller version of Empire State Building.

I wish I could like it more, but the top is just so ugly. Like something out of a junkyard. :haha:

Cool. It's one of the few great skyscrapers that exist in Mexico.

Is no the most beautiful it is not the most original but is an iconic builduing for mexico this was one of the first steps mexico city takes to enter to the skycrapers world race and we need to be grateful because of that lon live for "torre latinoamericana"

I've always liked this one. Yes, it's obviously derivative of ESB, but it's still a (minor) icon.
I would be interested in the tenant mix these days, as it's no longer in a prime office area. Not a bad area, but no longer an "A" location. |
