Good looking city

Nice pics, but if that we consider that be the "Venice of the U.S." then Venice, Italy should not be concerned with any competition.

Great pictures. I was down there years ago, and the beach pictures make me want to go back.

The skyline is looking great and very welcoming! Thanks for the post and the great shots!

A nice skyline in the middle of Paradise.

I've been to Ft Lauderdale twice for business, but once was in Jan, and once was in March in the middle of a jellyfish invasion. Both times the beaches were deserted.
That looks much better.

Did you take your camera out into the water?!

jomaled Aug 22, 2008 11:38 PM

Yes, I did, LASam. At this time of year, the water is calm and clear, it's like wading into a warm bath tub! (well, almost).

A salty warm bath tub...

The shots of the hotels along the beach are good. I haven't been up there since they completed. Turned out pretty nice.

jomaled very nice pics! Ft Lauderdale has been called the Venice of America because it has a ton of canals west of the beach and the Intracoastal waterway. The beach pics are what used to be called the Strip where are the Spring breakers used to come and downtown is a few miles inland from there.

jomaled Aug 23, 2008 4:17 AM

Thanks, BobDreamz. Well, Ft Lauderdale beach has definitely become upscale since the springbreakers were driven up north to Melbourne and Daytona. On the first picture, the building with the setbacks is the Ritz-Carlton! No spring breakers there, for sure. I noticed during my last visit that there were quite a lot of Europeans, Eastern, mostly, like Serbs, Czechs, Croatians, etc. They say with the favorable exchange rate, it's a bargain to come to the US. Of course, they LOVE the heat and humidity of Florida. I would say that Ft Lauderdale is now a year round destination. The Europeans/Latins come in the summer then the snowbirds take over during the "season".

I'll never understand it, why Southern California is so opposed to beachside mid and high rises. The Venice of the U.S.? In Venice Beach, CA why oh why wont they allow this attractive kind of development over there? What are they afraid of?

Nice thread! Makes me long for the ocean again!!
