For some reason I had assumed Seattle was further north than St John's.

Moscow is north of both Calgary and Edmonton, but a tiny bit south of Fort McMurray.

In casual conversation St. John's is often said to be closer to Ireland than it is to the west coast of Canada, but it's actually closer to the westernmost point of Ireland than it is to the westernmost part of Ontario near the Manitoba border.

St. John's is actually the exact same distance from Rome, Italy as it is from Vancouver, BC. And as a result closer to Rome than Victoria, BC.

St. John's is about the same distance from the Azores as it is from Toronto.

Yeah, but Saint Johnsians (?) are culturally far more similar to Victorians, than to Romans.

Did you know Winnipeg is near the centre of Canada, but people misinterpret this to mean roughly halfway from Victoria to St. John's. Canada's North extends immensely farther west than Victoria. Winnipeg is nowhere near the middle of the southern width of Canada where most people live.

Northern reserves in Canada often bring in teachers from other provinces, who sometimes love in swanky secluded developments locals are encouraged not to visit. Radio stations are the lifeblood of the community and even broadcast who is invited to birthday parties, etc.

27 of the US States are at least partly north of the southernmost part of Canada. 13 are entirely north of Canada's southernmost point of land.

Saskatachewan is 7th in the list of Canadian provinces and territories by area.

Nunavut, the largest province or territory, is roughly the size of Saudi Arabia, number 13 in the world listed by area.

Did you know that although the 49th parallel is the traditional delimiter between Canada and the US, only 1/3rd of the Canadian population actually lives north of the 49th.

Another 1/3rd lives between the 45th and 49th parallels

The remaining third of the Canadian population actually lives below the 45th parallel.

Of course this ignores the million or so Canadian ex-pats in the USA. :)

Montreal is closer to the border between Florida and Georgia than it is to the northern tip of Quebec in Ungava.

The urban area of Red Deer, AB (population : 99 718) could barely fit into Paris intra-muros (population : 2 206 488).

I've always found it interesting that the West moves as you change latitudes on our continent.

From points in Alberta, going due south you'll hit Southern California.
From points in Saskatchewan (fairly central to us Canadians), you'll hit Arizona (definitely the West).
