look nowhere else • PORTLAND, OREGON • high-grade fancy

Hello. Here are 125 photos from the past quarter-year, taken in Portland, Oregon and points close enough to drive to for an afternoon of recreation. Recurring themes: the aerial tram (which just turned 5), the MLK Viaduct (which just opened in fall), curves, colors, and as ever, Mount Tabor and Ma Nature.

Portland sound for Portland town:

Another Sasso classic!

And to think, I almost didn't open My City Photos today! What a great thread, your photos prove that Portland doesn't just have urban beauty, but quite a bit of natural beauty. Is it foggy often in Portland? All the nature ones plus the one of old + new MAX and the fog overtaking Portland at the end were my favourites.

This thread is incredible.

A little beauty, a little humour, a little bit of everything. Brilliant set!

This is your best collection of photos in recent memory. I've got some homesick Portlanders here in Shanghai that I'll be showing this thread to.

A++ (+)

I think you could have just made a thread on trees and I would have left satisfied. Here we are rounding the corner into spring and you make me start missing fall. Perfect mix, stellar set.

Also, extra points for showing a clean toilet this time.

Bravo! You've always been a stellar urban photographer, but it looks like Portland really brought out a gift for capturing nature's beauty to boot.

Dude.

You've given me so many ideas for this city. I saw one or two things that I noticed on my own, and that's it. You've got a great eye, and an even better eye for capturing this awesome city. We've gotta meet up some time; I know some spots you'd probably love (although for all I know, you found them years ago!).

I've missed your amazing photos lately! These are beautiful -- love how you capture things I've seen a zillion times and make them seem completely different and new. That new MLK viaduct is pretty cool looking (except for the damn speed trap a lil further north that I fell into recently) ... one of my faves:

It (the feel of this thread) has a delicacy - if that aint too frou-frou to say.

sgoood.

urbanlife Feb 1, 2012 3:52 AM

Great job making Portland look sexy...which let's be honest, it is a pretty damn sexy city and surrounding area.

So where is this picture taken? It is always fun to see something in your own city that you have lived in for years that you have never seen before. This place looks like it might be worth the trek out to see it before I move.

Derek Feb 1, 2012 3:57 AM

Oh my. I love Portland.

OhioGuy Feb 1, 2012 4:13 AM

Plenty to like!

(but as cool as that bathroom looks, I'd hate to be stuck cleaning that much grout!)
