Thanks for the tour. I had the pleasure of visiting Iceland in 1990 and it is definitely on my list for a return real soon to see the changes in the last 25+ years. To bad I missed on the year end cheap flight sale out of Edmonton this year

James Bond Agent 007 Nov 28, 2017 3:50 AM

Is it me, or are there more signs in English there than in Icelandic?

Hahaha... we paid $416cdn return. Or about $2197 if you factor in the beer.

A bit of both, but they certainly know the hand that feeds them. Tourism was almost out of control in certain areas... in the off-season.

I don't know if this is still a thing, but in the early 2000s Iceland blitzed the Boston media market with tons of $300-400 flights from Logan to Reykjavik. You could do a hot spa weekend for about $500 a person. It can be less than a 5 hour flight depending on weather. My parents did it 4-5 times and raved more after each trip.

Great pics, the forlorn nature is hauntingly beautiful.

Coldrsx Nov 28, 2017 7:38 AM

^similar to what they do in many places where they place direct flights. Get you there for a reasonable amount and then expensive food/bev/hotel/day trips.

Brilliant really.

There are less than half a million Icelandic speakers (almost all of whom speak English as well), so of course there are more signs in English.

niwell Nov 28, 2017 3:32 PM

Great pics! I was about to do a second take when you stated cheap beer near the beginning - but clearly you realized the harsh reality. Getting good beer is even more horrifically expensive.

Laceoflight Nov 28, 2017 4:02 PM

Wonderful trip in beautiful Iceland ! It's definitely on the bucketlist.

tdawg Nov 28, 2017 5:19 PM

On the list of cities that punch above their weight, Reykjavik is definitely up there.

Nantais Nov 28, 2017 6:23 PM

Stunning pics !
This crashed plane in the middle of nowhere seems to be a major attraction of Iceland.

Lol. Did you see the guy's signature and posts? He went through entire Russia, almost literally. He knows about this kind of countless places already, maybe better than Icelanders do themselves.

Nantais Nov 28, 2017 10:27 PM

Though I've never been to Iceland (but maybe in the future, why not). ;)

It's just that this crashed plane seems to feature in every TV documentaries about Iceland, as well as in French hip hop video clips shot in Iceland :

Parfaitement inutile.

IMBY Nov 30, 2017 6:29 PM

What a great tour that was! Thoroughly enjoyed it, thanks so much!

Sun Belt Nov 30, 2017 7:55 PM

I would love to do a road trip in Iceland!

Very cool.

Centropolis Nov 30, 2017 8:48 PM
