SINGAPORE | UOB Plaza | 919 FT / 280 M | 66 FLOORS | 1992

The UOB Plaza One is a 66 story tower designed by Kenzo Tange. It was designed for United Overseas Bank to go along with their existing 30 story tower. The existing tower was re-clad and given a new top and the two buildings are linked at the base along the Singapore waterfront.

The UOB Plaza is the same height as two other buildings in Singapore (Republic Plaza and OUB Centre - also designed by Tange) that are tied at 919 ft for the tallest in the city.

The building is an octagon in form that tapers to a rotated square, not unlike the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. The aluminum skin plays off Tanges earlier OUB Centre across the street and the two towers form a 'pair' of sorts...a king and queen if you will.

The waterfront location of this building assures that it will always have a prominent place in the Singapore skyline.

Its got that 80's asian flare to it,I love the setbacks and the facse, and the crown is pretty cool so is the miny me.

I remember when I showed my mom this building and she was like "how do you pronounce it?" lol

plinko, are these your pics? quite a comprehensive collection.

This building looks best in my opinion on a sunny day, when its facade shines (I can post some pics of that if you like). It is also awash with white light at night on certain occasions, adding more grandeur.

There is a Chinese restaurant at the top, or you can visit the skylobby at the 37th floor for good city views. However I aint sure if one can still use the skylobby.

Here are some rare shots of UOB under construction in 1991/1992

Yeah, this is what I took over 5 days in Singapore in September of 2006. The sun didn't make much of an appearance while I was there.

If you've got sunny photos, by all means post them! Your photos are always quite good.

I did not know the "little sister" was reclad when the taller OUB was built. I assumed they were built at the same time. These pictures show what the smaller OUB looked like before the reclad.

RafflesCity Jun 18, 2008 11:53 AM

Its "little sister" is much older, being built around 1973.

@Plinko, thanks! Here goes...

This building has always reminded me of the Library Tower in Los Angeles

Yeah, it reminds me of the Library Tower too.

I love this building as well as the Singapore skyline. I stumbled down the river there a few times after nights of partying. Great memories.:D Singapore is one place I wouldn't mind living in.
