NEW ORLEANS - Texcolo's wife's pics

The wife and I flew down to New Orleans with a couple of friends last month. We actually stayed in Gulfport, MS and drove in everyday. It was a really suburban plan. Anyhoo... the pics.

:D

Our cabin in Gulfport. The pylons in the front are from a house that was lost during the hurricane.

There were tons of empty lots and foundations slabs left bare.

Waffle House, based just outside of Atlanta, was the first to rebuild after Katrina. We made a game of spotting Waffle Houses. They are EVERYWHERE.

This is just inside East New Orleans. There's a wildlife refuge and tons of houses on stilts.

I'm glad you had a good time here. Coming in on Chef Hwy is fun, although you get to see the suburban wasteland of New Orleans East.

The sloping house may not be a foundation problem... ancient buildings were intentionally built with a batter (slope) in the wall to shed rain faster. Of course, foundation problems are also common here, so... hard to tell.

i've been obsessed with the foliage of new orleans for some time and have attempted to replicate that here with some success...i have to build a small greenhouse every winter over the palms (the european palms in st. louis square inspired me to plant some here). this year i almost lost one - all that is left practically is the central spear.

those almost look like paw paws but they dont grow off the trunk.

Always love seeing some NOLA. This was first choice on my vacation short list but we opted for Chicago this year.

Great pics! Good to see we were there pretty much at the exact same time without knowing
