We get that a lot. Only when something is moving forward will people move on to the next thing to whine about. But patience is all you really need.

It looks like 1 Madison Avenue is on the cover of the latest issue of Popular Science. Looks like Verre is there too.

I rather like the way the external columns are emphasized in this rendering.

Wow, who would've thought. From that rendering alone, it would've been a nice companion to the Tower Verre.

Could someone delete the completion date here and in the diagrams? 2010 is impossible.

OneWorldTradeCenter Jul 5, 2010 1:33 PM

Is this still an active proposal? Otherwise I will change the status to "stale-proposal".

BStyles Jul 5, 2010 6:06 PM

You know, 12 years ago when I was looking at futuristic movies and these crazy looking buildings, I never thought it would come out of science fiction. Now, there are endless possibilities in an architect's crazy mind.

These buildings really do look nice.

I haven't heard anything about it being canceled.

I feel like only so many 900+ footers can be approved in one city at one time amidst a fragile economic recovery.

sbarn Jul 15, 2010 9:45 PM

^^ I don't think this one is going anywhere fast in this economy. The new building across (1 Madison Park, I think) is stuck in a huge legal battle.

NYC2ATX Jul 15, 2010 10:15 PM

:previous: I like your attitude....especially since I'll be going to school next to this tower's future location until around 2013

brian.odonnell20 Jul 15, 2010 10:21 PM

by 2013 you guys in nyc could have something taller than burj khalifa either proposed or u/c if the economy stands up

scalziand Jul 16, 2010 1:32 AM

^Unlikely. There's just no place where the zoning would support a building that big.

Innsertnamehere Jul 16, 2010 2:04 AM

plus, as far as i know, the FAA won't allow anything over 2000 feet.

brian.odonnell20 Jul 16, 2010 2:12 AM

eh, i guess that is pushing it. There still is a lot of room for optimism though in the future regarding changes in zoning and upward development. That doesn't mean there's gonna be 2000 footers all around nyc in the future but there certainly is room for things to change, especially regarding concerns for a lack of space.

There are no news for long time now. That project has been proposed in 2008, and nothing happened. No news anymore (other than Tower Verre for example). I hope it still gets built!

Most proposals are still at a standstill due to the financial crisis that halted them in the first place. There will be news on this one if and when there is something to report.

Really?? Sounds exciting!!

When the project moves toward the 7 month approval process, we'll know if there is intent to move forward.

It has yet to enter the city’s months-long special-review process, according to an Elad spokesman, nor has Elad attempted to secure financing. Watching a plunging market and fending off lawsuits filed by disgruntled Plaza buyers, the developer may choose to wait years.
