Yea, I'm excited about this one except for the fact that it's so far from the street and it has that disgusting parking lot in the front of the building. I'm sure that it won't make it past the city planners if it doesn't get fixed.

With all of the development going on, it's truly amazing how many surface parking lots still exist within the loop and crossroads area.

Kansas City sure Is picking up on infill construction. You all sure are beating St. Louis by proposals for Vacant lots.

Yea, There is still a LOT of work to go but I'm glad to be able to post what seems to be 2 or 3 new projects per month.

Speaking of filling surface lots, I was about and about today and snapped a few pics of Two Light's progress. 14 stories to go on this tower and 2 taller towers to go.

So will 3 Light be announced around the Time 2 Light is ready to open? The remaining Towers will give the Power and Light District a "Big City" Feel

Progress has been made. I can honestly say that this one has far exceeded the rendering when you see it in person.

Agreed. Finished product looks much better than the rendering.

The plan is for ground to be broken on three light before the completion of two light. I would expect it sometime this summer.

From last week:

A new tenant for some downtown offices! Decent sized # of employees too. Exact location still to be determined.

California tech firm moving HQ, creating 300 jobs in downtown KC

Welcome to Silicon Prairie.

AutoAlert, a California-based leader in software solutions for auto dealers, has been offered a state Missouri Works grant of as much as $9.2 million for moving its headquarters to downtown Kansas City.

The company, which is currently headquartered in Irvine, Calif., is expected to create more than 300 high-paying tech jobs at the new location.

“We are still in negotiations on the location,” AutoAlert spokeswoman Beth Moore said, but the company plans to announce it soon and be operational there sometime this spring.
And from today, the building they're gonna move to is ...

AutoAlert HQ heads to former KC Southern building
Quote:

The tech firm has signed a lease for about 45,000 square feet of new headquarters space on four floors of the former Kansas City Southern Railway headquarters building at 114 W. 11th St.
Which is this thing here. Good to see some offices being taken up. Hopefully the downtown office market will get tight enough soon so that we can get some new office construction.

Chris Stritzel Feb 17, 2017 1:27 AM

The Power and Light Building's low Rise Extension sure adds to the density of Kansas City's already dense Downtown. KC's infill like this makes a bid difference after a while. Now the other Cant lot on the BLah Side of the buil;ding needs to be built on. I prefer a Neo-Art Deco Building that completments the P&L Tower.

Five Light is now under consideration. Please don't name it Five Light tho.

Hmm, that would be interesting to see how they would fit one of those towers in that spot. Maybe it means it would be taller!

James Bond Agent 007 Feb 19, 2017 1:20 AM

Was downtown today and took some pics of construction progress.

First, just for the heck of it I took a pic of the building that will house the new AutoAlert headquarters. The ground floor on this building leaves something to be desired. Otherwise, a nice old building.

Summit on Quality Hill. This is such a big complex it's practically like a mini-city being built in the city.

I'm not sure if this one is part of that complex or not. It's right next to it.

This is yet another renovation called Fairfax Lofts. Didn't even know about this one until I happened to walk by it.

First pic turned out crappy. Oh well.
