Thank you for that.
How are you enjoying Brandon/ U of B thus far? |
cool...the art gallery could use an update.
i love that canadinns hotel. i wish winnipeg was where brandon was...the topography is nice...if you drive fast enough on the number one you can pop your ears at that one big dip. its a nice city. |
i think that canad inns is fugly!
no pics of city hall come on.......... these are from november. http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/778/brandon8ux7.jpg http://img459.imageshack.us/img459/6189/brandonqg3.jpg http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/5369/brandon2wr4.jpg http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/5708/brandon3mb9.jpg http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/9331/brandon4er3.jpg http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/3295/brandon6gq5.jpg |
Hmmm, I guess a comparable city to Brandon would be Moose Jaw.
Brandon doesn't seem to have the architecture or the downtown that Moose Jaw has. WOuld be an interesting thread to see a comparison between the two cities. Both are relatively the same size. |
moose jaw would pwn brandon but brandon has some intresting buildings also that are missed in these shots and i wish i had pics of them......

Very nice, Mr. Blitz. How are you liking the university (my alma mater)?
I used to live in an old victorian house on 15th street, not too far away. Miss that place. Have you been to the Double Decker pub at 10th and Rosser, or is it still there? If you're still around in September, they usually close off the street in front for Picklefest...unless it's no longer running as well. |

I was there this past summer, and I was quite impressed with the downtown there. Lots of cool big old houses around the core area too. |

Do you mean "own"? If so, I would disagree with you. I do like Moose Jaw, but I like Brandon much more; not as dry and oh so close to Riding Mountain National Park and Turtle Mountain Provincial Park, very picturesque forested areas. |

The decker is a great pub, and it is still there....you can see the Union Jack awning over the door in one of the photos. |
Oops, I see it now.. thanks. I'm glad it's still there - I'm going to be in Brandon last weekend in Feb. for my brother's wedding social and I plan on making a visit. :D

There wasn't any Tim's in town until very recently.. I think the one in the south end opened in 2004 or 2005.. the one on 18th and the TCH has been around a bit longer.. maybe 10 years.
I took geography and psychology there, Blitz. what do you teach? |
Nice pics! It would be good to see similar shots in one of the warmer months, and with people moving about (instead of a Sunday?). It is in a nice little valley too.

I've never really been in Brandon proper, just passed through on the Trans Canada Hwy.
Does anyone have a sense of whether downtown Brandon is any healthier than downtown Winnipeg? It seems from the photos that Brandon has been able to keep its Main Street. I assume most people still do their shopping on Main Street, and that for the most part their downtown is pedestrian friendly. |
Most people shop at the Shopper's Mall at the south end of the city, or the new-fangled Corral centre near the hill. There is a mall downtown (Brandon Gallery), but it's a lot smaller and has been hurting quite a bit. Maybe things have turned around for it recently, I'm not sure..
The Strand Theater on 10th Street closed as well.. now everyone goes the the googleplex at the south end (Empire Cinemas). |
