dunnhumby Centre: 9 unconventional stories
Quote:

Construction officially began this morning on the new dunnhumby Centre, a nine-story office and retail building that will finally fill a star-crossed site Downtown at Fifth and Race streets.

“This is a truly great day for the city of Cincinnati.” Mayor Mark Mallory said at the groundbreaking. “Anytime you can take a vacant lot and turn it into a world headquarters it's a big deal.”

DunnhumbyUSA, the fast-growing marketing information company, will occupy 280,000 square feet on four and a half floors. Restaurants and retail will share the lofty main level with dunnhumby’s lobby, and 1,000 parking spaces will be spread over six levels, half of them underground.

DunnhumbyUSA dubs new HQ as 'Dunnhumby Centre'
Quote:

"Dunnhumby Centre." That's the name of the new, $122 million DunnhumbyUSA corporate headquarters building, which had its groundbreaking this morning at Fifth and Race streets downtown.

Dave Palm, Cincinnati-based DunnhumbyUSA’s senior vice president for operations, told me that the spelling of “centre” pays homage to the company’s British roots and to the consumer research firm's quirky style.

Dunnhumby zips up support for HQ design
Quote:

The most striking aspect of the nine-story dunnhumby centre, whose design was finally revealed Tuesday, is a jagged “zipper” of glass cutting through a facade of dark gray concrete and windows on two sides of the building.

“We wanted to show what we do,” Dave Palm, senior vice president of dunnhumbyUSA, said in an interview. “The data we work with with our clients is not symmetrical.”

In addition, Palm said, the “zipper” is made of glass to provide a sense of openness: “We’re not behind a fortress of secrecy.”

How do they get 30 stories from 20 ? Would this be 20 stories of rentals *on top of* a 10 story office structure ?

Yes, the first 10 stories will most likely be office space, with the top 20 being residential.

The only sticking point in the plan is that Dunnhumby wants the option to add more floors later on. They are still trying to work this out, but they do want to stack the office and residential into one tower.

According to some inside info, they are considering putting the office space and residential on top of the above ground parking garage, and designing the garage in a way that would allow them to expand the office space downward into the garage by "replacing layers of the parking garage with office as dunnhumby expands their business."

Do you suspect they'll get approval ?

In any case, if Gensler is doing it it should be a looker. And maybe a 400-footer I should think.

natiboy Jun 16, 2012 3:28 AM

I think it will get approved. Dunnhumby is in a hurry to get this built because they have already outgrown their headquarters, and when our new suspension bridge is built in a couple of years, they will be displaced anyways. On the news tonight they said the full council should vote on it before their summer recess. If that is done, excavation will begin before the end of the summer.

Very aggressive timeline. Love it. Should be prominent on the skyline too.

Yep, that's the best part!

I'll post renderings as soon as they're released.

Cincinnati City Council last Tuesday approved a property sale and development agreement, a service agreement, and a garage lease and management agreement with the Cincinnati Center City Development Corporation (3CDC) and dunnhumbyUSA for the mixed-use development of Downtown's Fifth and Race site.

Still no renderings, but this tower will likely start construction in October.

DunnhumbyUSA's Fifth and Race project likely to start in October
Quote:

It looks like construction on 3CDC's mixed-use development at Fifth and Race streets won't be starting this month.

The Business Courier reported in June that construction of the project that will house DunnhumbyUSA's new corporate headquarters could begin as early as August. It now looks like construction will probably get under way in October, according to Anastasia Mileham, spokeswoman at Cincinnati Center City Development Corp.

Aargh!

Proposed in June and will already be getting underway in October? In this was proposed in June in Boston it wouldn't be getting underway until November... of 2016.

I think we're getting pretty lucky with this one. Things almost never progress this quickly in Cincy, but the main tennant of this tower is in a hurry for a new HQ.

KevinFromTexas Aug 29, 2012 3:36 AM

Cool. It'll probably be in the area of 400 feet I would think.

I hope so. There are rumors going around that they are separating the office and residential components. They are saying there will be a common retail base with 8-10 floors of office along 5th street and 15-20 stories of residential above 6 floors of parking along 6th street.

Austinlee Aug 31, 2012 9:13 PM

Why are they bogarting the renderings! CMON!

Duck From NY Sep 23, 2012 12:36 PM

Love Cincy's skyline. One of the most underrated cities in America. Can't wait for the renderings.

Come on, man!

natiboy Sep 24, 2012 2:44 AM

Yeah I'm getting pretty impatient waiting on the renderings. It's supposed to start construction in October. I thought we would have seen something by now.

natiboy Nov 14, 2012 3:25 PM

Looks like the residential portion of this tower has been cancelled.

So, this probably won't be any taller than 10 floors or so :(

Dale Nov 14, 2012 6:45 PM

Wow, after all that buildup about a 'skyline changer.'
