FREKI Apr 22, 2008 2:29 PM

On April 21st I took a long drive to the northern shores of my island Zealand and visited a few places - we start with Gilleleje a cozy fishing village 45min north of Copenhagen

GILLELEJE

The northernmost point on the island of Zealand and a very cozy traditional habour village

The northernmost point - Sweden in the horrizon

Cozy streets, nice old houses and a nice beach but a bit dead, atleast in April :)

Bergenser Apr 22, 2008 2:36 PM

Small danish towns like that are cozy. :)

JackStraw Apr 22, 2008 2:38 PM

great photos

so Colorful, so beautiful, such great looking houses.

I always wanted Scandinavia so badly. Norway, Denmark, and Sweden just seem incredible!

Certainly looks like a ver nice place when the weather is good, which seems to be represented in those pix.

FREKI Apr 22, 2008 3:12 PM

Thanks guys!

Rågeleje

Moving west of Gilleleje we get to a larger 'summer home' area Rågeleje with a new lovely beach promonade and some funky terrain

http://i31.tinypic.com/2iqmtlx.jpg

The route west of Gilleleje is very scenic with the ocean on your right and nice homes and hills on your left
http://i31.tinypic.com/2enx72a.jpg

Ta da!!! Rågeleje downtown!!! :)
http://i26.tinypic.com/rv9jcy.jpg

Yeah.. it's not exactly the urban feel people come here for, but the promonade is nice
http://i31.tinypic.com/209py0w.jpg

http://i28.tinypic.com/ftkml4.jpg

And the beach is lovely
http://i25.tinypic.com/29xj2hs.jpg

http://i30.tinypic.com/abijao.jpg

The air is warm, but the water is still a tad too cold for me
http://i29.tinypic.com/k2bmad.jpg

Rotten old shack blocking my view
http://i32.tinypic.com/2j4oj2s.jpg

Moving a bit west we get to a nice hilly area
http://i30.tinypic.com/2e3dbpx.jpg

With a nice path to the ocean
http://i30.tinypic.com/1z4d6cp.jpg

Perfect kite weather it seems
http://i26.tinypic.com/2uhwn7t.jpg

The shore..
http://i26.tinypic.com/95mvkg.jpg

Some dude out fishing..
http://i27.tinypic.com/11vnlvq.jpg

More shore..
http://i25.tinypic.com/2qnsbh5.jpg

And time to head back to the car..
http://i28.tinypic.com/21n3b5s.jpg

All in all a very lovely place - I especially enjoyed the hilly area - it seemed perfect for a picnic :)

Perfect reason to change their name :D

Anyway I like it up there but I don't think I could live there - I'm an apartment and city person..

But a 'summer house' up there would be nice - it's only a 45-55min drive from where I live, so perfect for the weekends :)

FREKI Apr 22, 2008 5:25 PM

Tisvildeleje

Moving even further west along the coast we come to another small coastal town Tisvildeleje
http://i30.tinypic.com/6ejb6h.jpg

The town itself isn't anything special - pretty much just summer homes for Copehageners, but the beach is sweet!
http://i30.tinypic.com/1yl5l4.jpg

http://i31.tinypic.com/1hwlfk.jpg

http://i27.tinypic.com/9gzk1j.jpg

Wooded houses are fairly common up here - a nice example
http://i30.tinypic.com/16h11j9.jpg

As high as posible seems to be the goal

http://i30.tinypic.com/qqep9e.jpg

Old traditional house for this part of the kingdom..
http://i30.tinypic.com/qrkppk.jpg

Spring - finally! :)
http://i27.tinypic.com/21n38es.jpg

Empty parking lot - won't stay like that for long anymore..
http://i31.tinypic.com/k50w0w.jpg

huge white bird tracks? :)

End of the road :)

Thanks - plenty of pics comming!

We have very shallow waters with lots of sand - it's not "tropical green" but it does the trick :)

Sadly we get lots of algees along the summer because of those conditions - but at this time of year it's perfect - except 10C too cold :)

for me, the great thing living in a place like that is that there is a big city very close by.

btw, the second beach is just as nice.

Looks a bit boring - maybe because I'm so used to these kinds of landscapes. :)

Great pics nonetheless, and Nordre Själland looks cosy.

We are all different like that...

I work with many who lives in small rural towns and have more than an hour to work - it's certainly not for me, but if they want it like that then by all means..

A problem for me with those places is that we do have fairly long and dark winters here - we rarely get any snow so instead there's just darkness and brow colours everywhere - even with the sea closeby I would imagin such places becomming really depressing - espcially when almost half the houses up there are vacation houses only used in the summer half of the year...

Urban Enthusiast Apr 23, 2008 1:18 AM

Very hygge!

FREKI Apr 23, 2008 5:42 AM

:)

Took a trip up there again today to finish covering the area - so here's some more pics from up north..

Frederiksværk

One of the "larger" cities up north located between the Roskilde Fjord and Arresø Lake - a very suburban and sprawly place
http://i25.tinypic.com/addykp.jpg

The old city moat still around...
http://i28.tinypic.com/2d7semd.jpg

http://i26.tinypic.com/2rd9pbo.jpg

http://i26.tinypic.com/2hi2e0x.jpg

http://i28.tinypic.com/2u4houq.jpg

The ever present pedestrian street..
http://i30.tinypic.com/6suz9s.jpg

http://i28.tinypic.com/2iw58uc.jpg

http://i27.tinypic.com/24omwkp.jpg

http://i27.tinypic.com/ael8op.jpg

http://i31.tinypic.com/307u79e.jpg

http://i32.tinypic.com/zl9fg6.jpg

I think it's a storck taking off...
http://i30.tinypic.com/2lnn0z.jpg

http://i26.tinypic.com/t70qv8.jpg

And that's about that...

All in all I guess it's an okay place for suburbanites - but the center offers very little - there is also a habour and all the usual marts and all that, but certainly nothing special..

What I did like about the place was that is was located inside a wood - sadly most of the trees haven't gotten their leafs yet, but I can imagin it being nice in the summer..

Ayreonaut Apr 23, 2008 7:15 AM

Just awesome man, Scandinavia is definitely near the top of my travel list. I could probably live there too.

Ayreonaut Apr 23, 2008 7:21 AM

To add to that. I don't really know the reason why I think I could live there, it's just that every time I look at these threads I get a warm, cozy feeling about the region.

It's likely I'm going to London in the fall, if I can I'm going to try and make a trip to Denmark to find out if my feelings of the place are reality. I have a friend that's planning on going to Norway sometime anyway, maybe I'll go with him.

staff Apr 23, 2008 10:15 AM

^^
Don't go anywhere near Denmark/south Sweden in the winter though - they are officially the most depressing places on earth by then. :)

Frederiksvärk's moat makes the place look really nice, actually.

cabasse Apr 23, 2008 11:25 AM

lovely shots right out of a movie scene. is it usually that sunny? looking forward to the next round.
