What an amazing array of projects. Centrium Place looks spectacular, and the Calgary Courts Complex is a very impressive project as well. I can't wait to see what Foster dreams up for Encana...could this be the emergence of Canada's pre-emininent skyscraper?

Great update Josh. A couple of questions:
-is Genco really under construction? Did not know that. -what about the rumours that Southland Office Tower and Castello may have started? Also, caught a very brief glimpse of some renderings of what appeared to be a ~4-tower complex along the riverfront (perhaps it was the Greyhound site?) Anyways, the buildings looked to vary in height from about 10 floors to 30 or so. |

Has Calgary reached its city limit boundaries? From what I heard, in the early part of the Calgary boom, massive sprawl was taking place. Maybe they have no choice but to go up now.

^ The city has a policy of keeping a 30 year supply of land for future development, and is currently in a new round of annexations. There are no barriers to outward growth.
EDIT: IIRC, this is the first round of annexations since the Calgary Regional Planning Commission was dismantled in 1995. |
Calgary is definitely developing one of the nicest skylines, not only in Canada, but in North America. There is some really nice density, proportionality and balance.
Some of the new projects I'm seeing also look really nice and innovative. I've always wated to visit the city during the Calgary Stampede. Maybe this coming July! I've heard that there are very nice looking women there too!!! :D |

Calgary's economy necessitates the abundance of twins. Many of the buildings were built in boom times, but the financiers of such projects were weary of the markets volatility. They would build in phases, as to protect their investment and avoid financial ruin due to the inherant instability of a resource based economy.
Or so I have heard. |
