Status of the Thread: First one for this compilation.
1) So far, we have 620 highrises and skyscrapers in various levels of development for the NYC core. Most of these being in the core, but some for JC and Newark. 2) Average floor height varies, but the most common is 15 floors for those classified as highrises and not skyscrapers (over 350 ft approximately >) 4) Average of about 4-6 highrise projects presented to DOB per week. 5) Almost all of these high rises are for the late 2013 - present cycle. 6) Some of these extra DOB high rises are not listed, but will once renderings come out. - Chris E. |

I support occasionally knocking down the walk-up urban fabric in exchange for modern luxury units. (I would even support tearing down SOME of Park Slopes beloved Brownstons for 5-7 story flats). But, at least add density if you are going to do it. This truly is the rare case of new development making the housing affordability problem worse. |

But that's the fine line when it comes to developments. Can't expect winners all the time nor the ideal site for it to rise. Sometimes, a beauty will come down for a beast. And not a good beast either. |
